Gamo hunter elite

anyone own one of these? I’m going to be purchasing one from a forum member on another site soon. I’m curious about the Power plant and seals. I’m thinking I could use the Tesla piston seal and a Merlin XL spring for a soft tune? I’d probably buy the E3650 and the Merlin to compare, see if it performs better then it is in my CFR. Im also curious about the barrel. I can’t find many pics online and the one I have found seems to have a different shroud. Apparently the one I’m buying is a steel barrel for some distance then becomes an aluminum shroud.

Haha ya... well it’s 609! Not 690. So even worse then what you thought. I did realize that Germany and Netherlands sell those guns at 7FPE which is exactly what I’m at. 6.9FPE. It has to be the transfer port size right???

Anyway I just sent the payment for the hunter elite. He says it’s really accurate and he’s a top person/ moderator on the other forum so I’m taking his word for it. Although he says this one has a low velocity issue as well. I’m assuming this one will be much easier for me to fix though.

Got the beast in the mail the other day. Have NOT been able to shoot for accuracy which I know I’ll regret. I chronied it at 845fps with 7.9 CPLs for a low extreme spread of 8fps over 8 shots.

Cleaned the barrel which was quite full of debris, to the point where I know it lowered the diameter. I pushed a pellet through with positive results to my surprise.

Now im trying to disassemble to see what’s going on inside. I will be shortly installing a GRT-III trigger, and playing with a Merlin xl and e3650 spring before I settle on the guns permanent configuration.

Before I can do anything I have to figure out how to get it apart. My CFR spoiled me since it’s so incredibly easy to disassemble. This one might be less user friendly then even a benji bb.

I cant use my spring compressor as the plastic rear “block” is blocking access forcing me to come at an angle. I suspect the plastic is recessed into the chamber and around the pin. I’m thinking I’ll have to hand compress the spring while hoping for the best while the lady unscrews the large rear metal trigger screw with a wrench. Then I’ll compress by hand yet again while she taps out the rear pin and again hope for the best. -note: I only recently built a spring compressor and have removed quite a few nitro pistons and springs by myself using various props- what causes the largest hurdle is the stupid stupid design for the plastic rear piece. I can only imagine the design was from gamo to discourage tinkering.

Many tips or info is GREATLY APPRECIATED and needed.

Can you do all of us reading this a big favor and before you tear it all apart can you just shoot it for normal break in and post your results for all normal non tinker airgunners so we all can know what to expect from a straight out of the box Gamo Hunter Elite? I am personally curious since your gun is already shooting at a very good perfect Springer speed straight out of the box. Yo!

Yes. Thank you for the quick reply! But I did figure it out. The large screw at rear of trigger (size 10 wrench) needs to be removed as the plastic block is recessed and goes through the rear “block”. I will put it back together as is tonight and hopefully get baseline accuracy tested tomorrow or the next day. I’ll order the spring and GRT tomorrow probably. When the parts come in I’ll go ahead and do a cleaning and lube job. The spring already a decent fit in the piston and the spring guide is much better then the one in the CFR.

Well Yo! I tried. I simply tore it all down and cleaned well and lubed. Sanded rough edges, primarily the flat surface of the transfer port where it meets the o-ring and breech. I added a 1/4 width or less piston sleeve.

I got the notices today that everything I ordered has been shipped except maybe the o-ring from gamo which isn’t that important.

This gun is pretty darned accurate actually. We were hitting cams and everything we aimed at, all 30 yards and less. Turns out my wife likes it so now it’s hers. She started telling me about her idea for target shooting, while describing field target lol. So we set up several targets on a trail once I got the cheap scope somewhat sighted in. These gamo scopes are alright once you sight them in but doing so is a real process and DOES involve a little magic. The picture above with the nice little group was the first time I ever fired it at paper, the large group on top of that is me fighting with the scope. I only shot 2 groups with it at 15 yards and both are smaller then a quarter. My wife shot her first time ever today and her first group had first 2 shots as fliers then the following 4-5 go under half an inch.

The wife shot a few different pellets but put 4 in the bulls eye, she was pretty proud of that seeing as though we have hers sighted in and I’m still shooting for groups and hitting elsewhere. Obviously her gun likes CPLs more then the HN FTTs lol.

Got her E3650 almost ready to install. If it doesn’t shoot how I want and isn’t too easy for her to cock then I’ll install the Merlin XL. With all factory internals though it’s still very capable of 5 shots in a dime at 20 yards which is a lot better then I expected. When we put up targets in the trees she’s hitting them just about every time from 15 to 30 yards. I’m pretty happy with this gun and it’s fun to shoot

I’m hoping the GRT-III shows up tomorrow. If so I’ll be replacing the spring, piston seal, and breech o-ring I ordered direct from gamo. I suspect it’ll shoot a lot better for her with a trigger that’s not so rough and more predictable. I’d like to do a soft bedding on it as well but the fit is pretty tight so will take some tinkering once I decide how it’ll be done.

Finally got the new breech oring, spring, piston seal and GRT-III installed. I polished the sears really well. The pics were taken about half way through. Fired it off in the back yard today and was very impressed with the trigger pull. It was so much smoother then my GRT4 in the CFR, probably due to the time I spent on the Elites sears.

I hate installing new unset springs. This one was a particular struggle to get into my spring compressor. My spring compressor is only designed with a certain amount of travel and new springs exceed the play. I had to manually compress the spring by hand and get a thin longer pin through the retaining holes and then finish off in the compressor. Cocking was pretty hard, I know it’ll break in but still might have to go with the Merlin xl for the wife. My step fathers borrowing the chrony and they’re out of state unfortunately but tomorrow and the next day will be nothing but spring break in and pellet testing.
