Gamo Swarm Maxxim .177 Pellet of choice

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience with my new Gamo Swarm Maxxim in my quest for sub 2" 30 yards accuracy. I'm hoping to help someone else that is searching for an accurate pellet for this gun. I'm sure this will vary gun to gun but here is my experience.

I had planned to buy a TX200 but the price tag makes me a bit nauseous so I picked up a this gun to tide me over. I am coming from a Crosman Storm that has lasted 4000-5000 shots. I believe the spring broke or something else is going on with it because it went from 1" group at 30 yards to 5"-6" groups. So starting out with the Gamo I expected descent accuracy but I was pretty disappointed out of the box. I was consistently getting 2-3" groups at 30 yards even after 300-400 shots. Here are the pellets I have tried. Crosman premier 7.9gr, H&N Field target 8.64gr, Baracuda match 10.65gr, Baracuda 9.57gr, Gamo Whisper 10.5, and the JSB Exact Monster 13.4.

The first 5 pellets types shot about the same with 2"-3" groups at 30 yards. Some better than others but nothing I was close to happy with. Then I came to the Monster 13.4gr. My first round at 20 yards was .75" with these compared a best of 1.25" from the rest of the lot. My first groups at 30 yards were all 1" or less with the 13.4 and the smallest was .75". This is shooting from a lawn chair off of a deck hand rail. I seriously think I should able to shoot sub.75" at 30 yards off a better rest with these pellets. They also seem to be extremely consistent. I have 400 rounds of the 13.4's through the gun and its still shooting them great. It's not a TX200 but for $200 it's a blast to shoot. I've probably shot over 1,000 pellets through the gun in the past couple of weeks and zero issues or jams.

So long story short.... If you buy the Gamo Swarm Maxxim .177, give the Monster 13.4's a try. You may be surprised at the result.

Also pick up a 2.5x 10mm screw to switch out the second stage screw on the trigger. I backed mine out three turns and loctite'd . The trigger isn't bad at all now either.

Happy Shooting

Thanks for the review! I’ve been wanting one. Personally I’d try down tuning it. I have 2 games now with the GRT 3 and 4 triggers. Between that and polishing the sears it’s very nice compared to what it was. The break barrel responded really well to a little piston sleeve for calming the twang. I think I might get a gun like yours at some point and try tinkering around with it to see how much accuracy I’can squeeze out the barrel.

The "Twang" lol. I almost crapped myself the first time I shot it. Who would have thought my previous $100 springer could ever be considered calm. What do you mean by piston sleeve? Sorry most of this stuff is pretty new to me.

The177 Gamo Swarm Maxim (Wally World) that I had shot half inch at 40 yards with the Crosman 10.5 from the brown box and just under an inch with the cheaper 10.5 Ultra Magnums from the tins. Are you shooting the original Monsters or the redesigned?

Holy crap, You must have hit the lottery or I got a crap one. Did you do anything to the gun out of the box? I'll have to give the Crosman 10.5 a try. I know the crosman 7.9 shot terrible. I would get like 3-4 shots within 2" and one flier like 3" in a different direction at 30 yards.

I'm shooting the Redesigned Monsters.

Half inch at 40 yards is insanely good for a break barrel designed for marketing and sales rather then competition. I think yours is shooting pretty good right now. Wouldn’t hurt to order the CP heavies in the brown box. They’re 10.5 grain and one of the must have pellets for people who shoot different guns and test pellets. I have yet to have them perform best in any gun but others report good results.

A piston sleeve merely hugs the inside of the piston to take up some tolerance on coil spring guns to reduce the twang. You have a gas ram so I’d look into trying to reduce the power somehow for more accuracy but that’s just me. Depends on what you’re wanting out of it. Lots of options really. From making the stock heavier to changing the “ram” or “spring”. Tearing down for a proper lube, although the ram part of it simplifies that area. I’d have to look at the parts but there might be a way to slowly or incrementally reduce power...
