Gamo Swarm Maxxim Gen 2 .177 Cal Air Rifle

new to Airguns , been a collector of firearms since the 80's , but the black snakes didnt keep the barn rats under control this summer and now they have all but retired for the cold months the rats are getting brazen , .22 LR is just not practical for barn shooting and BB gun seems like it would be too tame

so i landed on a pellet rifle , was not looking to get crazy budget wise and after some research and YT vids i landed on the Gamo Swarm Maxxim x10 break rifle in .177, regretfully it did not come to mind to come here to ask questions first so it is on its way scheduled for delivery tomorrow

interested on thoughts , did i buy bad , did i do ok for entry level , anything i should know , is it finicky on ammo brand , ammo weight , the one video seems theat the heavier gr pellets grouped better and shot flatter so thats what i ordered

thanks

Ya, the newer gen 3i helps pellet feed issues and mote robust to what sqwirl said above ..

Personly just go single shot and there better 5 year warranty guns ..
I found mine to be much more consistent accuracy wise after removing the mechanisms too so I really won't complain too much about that either.

id rather have a fast follow up shot for a second rat , how many rounds on average before the part fails
Evryone always says that but honestly you aren't getting a second follow up shot fast enough for it to really matter. Make that first one count.

If you need multishot capabilities PCP is really your best option, although I've had no issues ratting with a single loader breakbarrel

i will make the first count but once you hit one rat the others scatter , so i would possibly get 2 before they get cover

Oops..

Did not know your adking after you buy .🤤

For guys that the autoloader did break gamo did send the part ( that in its self is above and beyond for gamo for any parts).
if you read my OP i stated it didnt occur to me to ask here , i went to YT for reviews ,and there was no bad review , i also said its due to be delivered tomorrow

I have a .177 Maxxim, Gen 2, and it has the same problem mentioned above; lots of feed failures. It shoots okay once you take the Swarm mechanism off. The scope that comes with it is kind of crappy, but I guess I shouldn't be upset considering the price.
That scope is a place holder at best. My first broke in 3 shots and the second lasted maybe a month or two. I slapped a couple UTGs on there and all set since

Well you never know .. it may last and hold up great , then maybe them guys broke it themselves or whatever.. heck even the best of stuff can have thete 1 in 1000000 lemon slip by..

Now. 2 more than hings if its a tall gen 1 type loader to know

1- a long scope or one mounted too forwarded will not clear the loader when you go to cock it.. ( short body scope or a setback/ offset mount may be needed) ??

2 - mount hight will need to be a tall / high ( or the tall loader will block the lens view).

Gen2 loader , low profile, but still not much clearance between the end of scope and loader ( cutting it close) , but lower mounts work

gen 2 is what i ordered , if i red dot it it wont be a issue for placement , need to figure out how to attach a light to it , they get real active at night
