N/A Gearing back up for 2025 Ground Squirrel Pesting ... JSAR Rocks on !

The rifle now on it's Sixth season of use still has it !! Tho modified from it's original set up it still has a Balanced valve ( Tho modified ) and a slew of other refinements it still remains a VERY viable pesting machine.
Out came the most recent "Karma" .25 test barrel & Back In went the proven LW 12G no choke .177 barrel. No mechanical changes required outside of the obvious Barrel/Probe, but also a matched tapered transfer port to maintain shot efficiency and chop the dwell further.
Muzzle report is just silly, sounds like a 12fpe gun with an LDC ... a mild Puff is all you hear.

Reg bumped up @ 150 psi to @ 1900 psi we're slinging NSA 15 grain Slugs @ 1025 fps for 35 fpe :p It shoots so flat the hold over at 80 yards is still +/- a squirrels back height .... See it hit it accurate too !
I'm soooo looking forward to few days in the Alfalfa fields shooting the Bending GS's starting in @ 4-6 weeks.

In recent years the $$$ of shooting .17 HMR had become so prohibitive at near $20 per 50 rounds, the use of high power, high speed AG's is becoming more the desired weapon. ( So longs as winds stay mild )

All these years of new guns coming to market, found few that can run with these these rigs ... Ugly they are but function over looks works just fine

** Edited to current as stated above Picture :giggle:
480cc bottle, SS Shroud, Larger TI Plenum tube, Custom SS LDC & Adjustable Butt pad.

Love the build and seeing another .177 hot rod! Despite the price point of 17hmr and 17wsm rounds, I would love if I could use them iguanas, for how much I've spent on airguns, ammo, etc I could've had a lifetime supply lol.
I can pretty much give you a written warrenty that the damn lizards will NOT be moving around after a 17hmr hits it. It's a hell of a round. The ONLY thing crazier is a 250/17 think pink mist.

I had the okay to do so at one property where we were removing coyotes, and all I gotta say is that it's an unforgettable experience seeing them get hit like that!

Lets not get reprimanded for speaking "Powder" ... But YES having shot over 8000 HMR rounds these last 10 years on the Beldings, it does bust-em-up pretty good (y)

Nice build and good luck with the Beldings .

I got to help a rancher hunting his property for a couple days clearing sage rats . I took my Marauder.22 a Savage .17hmr and a CZ 452 American .22lr . I ended up using the 22lr the most . That was a fun couple of days and really put a dent in the population. For me the 17hmr was overkill and the .22lr was the sweet spot . Now I have more powerful PCPs and would really like to use them on a ground squirrel hunt . Looking forward to your results.

On that note ... Dislike the .22 RF as near every shot is a into the dirt out of the dirt ricochet you can hear whistle across the fields.

Nice thing about the 17 HMR they just turn to dust. I've got a A17 with the plastic stock, got a laminate stock for it and...can't hit the broad side of a high rise with it now. Barrel is free floating, action is a decent fit but not perfect. Was going to bed it but lack the intestinal fortitude to risk doing it myself.

There is a lot of cattle to watch for but I didn't have that problem. Almost all the ranchers I met carry a .22lr in their trucks . Didn't see one .223 or 17hmr besides mine . They don't like the higher power cartridges in the area we shot . Way cheaper and less report than the .17hmr and just as effective without tearing them in half . I ended up selling it . I'm not on the 100fpe bandwagon for squirrel hunting either though. The 17hmr is a ripper but I'll just go .223 Rem or 6mm for long range squirrels or yotes.

What is the modification to the balanced valve, Scott?
Entirely new poppet style with chamber as part of head being PEEK, piston on the intake grate. External poppet spring, use of a Quad ring in lieu of o-ring, Tapered transfer port inducing sonic choking having a higher closing pressure signal, Different venting size Lighter hammer and use of a SSG antibounce devise. It was shared when R&D was happening over on the GTA
