Geezerhood's Notos Thread

My new as of about a week ago Notos has been such a joy to shoot. Once the barrel had a few hundred shots sent through it plus a couple of cleanings, it now seems to like pretty much everything pelletwise that I have on hand except for Meisterkugelns when fed from the magazine. I am going to gather all my other posts about my Notos to this thread to have them in one spot.

I’ve had mine for almost a month and like you, I found it likes many different pellets. Settlted on 16 gr. weight class pellets as the best balance between speed and power.

I’ve shot it out to 55 yds.(50 M) and get about 1” groups, which is good for me. Besides the 4-16x scope, I’ve mounted a side mount red dot for close work and a laser for really close work. Carm magazines are great, and if I overfill a little, I get two regulated Carm magazines on a fill… three stock magazines for sure.

It’s taken five groundhogs, out to 43 yds., on the hunting club and a couple pest squirrels in the backyard. Might qualify as the most fun gun I’ve purchased.

Seems to not have the POI shift issues my Prods have and more power.

Another quirk or complaint about the Notos that I found when trying to attach a sling - so far that is only 2 negatives for me - What looks like two push button QD sling swivel attachments on the telescoping buttstock are in fact just metal lined smooth holes with no groove to retain a push button QD sling attachment. Is mine an outlier or are they all made that way? It looks like they tried to copy a QD attachment hole but didn't notice the groove, or just forgot to machine it into the steel liner.

If it wasn't intended to be a QD sling attachment point, why is it even there and why lined with a steel sleeve?

Where have you guys attached a sling to your Notos? Are you doing a single or dual attachment point?

A few ideas on where to attach a sling.

I used a climbing web belt I made years ago. I passed the webbing through the spot your middle blue line goes to in the diagram.
It's not long enough to be all day comfy so I'll have to make a new one; but for now it works.

Web material looks like it could be the easiest to fit in those slots. A sling swivel stud near the end of the stock could secure the other end.

My Notos has a Sig Romeo4H optic so has room for a single point sling QD on the rear.View attachment 366488

An option I had considered adding to the image. My only concern is that the Pic rail is made of plastic, plus on my Notos I have a scope ring back there so I could get enough eye relief and still be able to load the magazine and access the side lever. I had to cut one section out of my side focus wheel to be able to cock the side lever. I will post a photo later.

I haven’t put a sling on my Notos but if the QD sling points don’t work perhaps a Magpul ASAP (Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point) might work for you. It goes under the castle but on the stock.

That should work well. If you didn't want to go single point, you could have a two point with the pushbutton QD on one end and something else on the other. That is what I was referring to with the callout "AR-15 style QD push button sling attachment plate" with the line pointing at the "buffer tube" junction on the stock. There are lots of plates out there that give you the QD pushbutton receptacle. One I quite like has it facing to the rear, but that plate probably wouldn't fit on the Notos.

Thanks all for the input!

My WestHunter 3-12x44, FFP scope only focuses down to 15 yds. and I’ve run into situations where shots were much closer. Turning the scope down helps, but there is still a big hold over to think about and a blurry sight picture, so I side mounted a Bushnell TRS25 Red Dot. For really close stuff, I mounted a green laser zeroed @12’. The whole setup weighs 5 lbs. 14.5 ozs.
I ordered some sling mounting hardware on Amazon to try attaching a sling. I’ll post success or failure after Friday.

Photos of the focus wheel showing how I cut one section of the UTG parallax focus wheel out so I would be able to access the magazine and the cocking lever. It stays out of the way from 12 yards to to 50 yards, but would need to be moved a bit to cycle the side lever at 10 yards. This isn't meant to be a Field Target gun and I don't shoot FT, but I can see that a magazine area and / or a cocking lever that would be under a large parallax wheel could be a big problem in Field Target matches. Thankfully quite a few guns allow you to switch the cocking lever from left to right.

The close up images of the studs show exactly where and how I installed some Uncle Mike's QD swivel studs. (Sorry about the focus on some of them. I was in a hurry.) The stud above the pistol grip was a tight fit, but I was able thread it in there without having to drill a larger hole. The threaded stud is too long for that position and will be shortened. The rear stud moves freely in the hole as is and the length is perfect with a small spacer between the stud and the stock to keep it up higher where it can rotate 360 degrees. . I think I will drill out some clearance on the front stud so it spins freely as well.

The Notos rides nicely muzzle down with the strap across my chest and the gun behind my right side as well as out in front. It is more secure, not dangling in the air and the muzzle points away from your body when carried in front. I can bring it to the firing position very quickly. If you shoot left eyed, mounting the studs on the other side of the gun would be the way to go. I prefer the 2 point attachment to a single point, plus it will put less stress on that skinny plastic bit where the frontmost sling stud is attached. The hole where the rearmost stud is placed seems more then tough enough.

Image above, parallax is set at 50 yards. Image below it is set at 12 yards.

That looks good and definitely covers all the bases on sighting. Let us know how the sling hardware install goes!

I would like to attach a red dot off to the right side as well. Will probably go with a 45 degree mount. I am considering the Athlon TALOS EDC 3 or maybe a Romeo Zero. I prefer the micro pistol red dots rather than large diameter scope like sights. If they weren't so expensive, I would put a Holosun EPS or EPS Carry on almost every gun I own. The EPS carry is extremely small considering what it offers. I like the MRS reticle the best plus that model has a solar panel and will work in daylight with no battery installed. Alas, they cost way more than I paid for the Notos.

My red dot is on a 45 degree mount. I tried one of the micro sights, but the on/off switch was not accessible mounted next to the scope and I’m right handed, so the dot needs to be on the right. I wanted everything mounted as compactly as possible so weight was not hanging out front.

This sling stud attachment point also works well, though you would need a longer threaded portion to add a nut on the end. It feels tight enough to hold as is, threading the stud into the tight fitting hole, but I plan to add some epoxy as well and forgo the nut on the end. The threaded section on the parts I am using doesn't reach out far enough for the nut as shown in the photo.

I couldn't believe that things worked out the way I had envisioned it... that almost never happens.
The only addition I had to make was to buy a 3/8OD x 1/4ID bronze bearing sleeve at the local hardware store. I had planned on a nylon bushing, but nothing they had was the right size and the bronze was exactly correct, except that I had to cut it down from 1" ~0.8" length. Easy job with a Dremel, and squared it up on my belt sander.

It was imperative to me that the sling be easily detachable. I haven't settled on the length yet, but a little trial and error in the field will fix that.

Looks good! So the bronze bushing is used on the right side of the rear QD connector, filling the large diameter hole in the stock? Was the nut that came with the threaded pushbutton QD part large enough to hold it all in the opening or did you need to add a washer on the right side?
