Getting A Bottle Wrap On

So I have done a lot of these. What I am curious about is the lubricant used, I was tought how to do it by Ernest Rowe he used a vegetable oil Coats the bottle and a light layer on the wrap most of it dries and the wrap doesn't move after some time. Another good friend recommended a silicone Grease because he said the vegetable oil over time would stink but ever since I switched to the silicone Grease the wrap goes on much easier but it spins around much more and sometimes makes bottle removal hard. Any information would be appreciated

A mesh wrap ? On scuba tanks we used sillycone spray then soak the wrap in hot water to help it expand the mesh then slip it right on cold water to wash / rinse off any excess sillycone and was good to go .
Damn, never thought about the hot water trick, that woulda been a life saver

Blasting it with some brake cleaner should remove enough silicone buildup between the tank and wrap for it to stop slipping
Are we discussing bottles on the rifle or air tanks for refilling?
Either way….Imho. Brake cleaner should never be used where there is fiberglas or CF since it is a harsh petroleum based solvent and will deteriorate these materials.
