Getting squirrelly

Little warmer today so the tree rats are out. Had 3 in a maple tree, got one and had another barking. Soon as I pulled the trigger on him, he turned. It clipped his nose and now he's hiding. Waiting for him to pop back out and finish him off.

This is the one I got with a front left shoulder thru vital shot. Exited in front of right rear leg.

Got a bonus sparrow with a 30 yard off hand head shot. I was happy with that.

Well, the other squirrel literally just jumped out of the tree into the air and out on to the ground! Probably 15-20foot up and he just supermanned it! Hit the ground running.... he gone!

Never seen one do that, but desperate times call for drastic measures!

I’ve had them jump like that. When they are pinned and know it’s do or die , they DO.

SOUNDS LIKE A LEAD WEIGHT HITTING THE GROUND. …

One just doesn't make much of a meal. Do they sell a 410 shotgun powered by air? POKE POKE! Maybe it would help collect more meat. If you are like me it isn't entirely about the meat but beating the wiles of the squirrel and marksmanship. The taste of squirrel is a real draw though. And I want to try "wings" in the air fryer with a collection of back legs, squirrel of course! Be Well Brothers, Bandito.

I had hoped to get all 3 and do just that. Air fried legs.

If I keep at these sparrows I could get a decent lunch!

DrK. Sitting w/ my coffee at the breakfast nook watching two squirrels and 4 crows vying for the two corn ears I tossed out a few days ago . Interesting watching these bandits ! If not for feeling under the weather , I'd probably have been slinging some lead at 'em. One crow noticed a couple chickadees in a nearby shrub and it literally ran to that bush and probed it but no luck!

I watch my cardinals and mockingbirds eat the corn and sunflower seeds. When the sparrows show up to harass the mockingbird and squirrels bother the cardinals, its game on.

Luckily the crows stay away for the most part. Grackles are a completely different story during spring, and I'm getting ready.

Got a nice male just now.

Hit him quartered left in the neck and he ran to the bushes but immediately stopped once he crawled on to a low branch.

That pellet ended up going all the back to his right hip and stopped under the skin.

He didn't stop there though oh no! He came out and tried to run for it but I hit him in the right shoulder from the back and it came out dead center of the chest. Another good on the run shot from this handy compact.

Running dead is the term. I’ve had this conversation thousands of times with the sub 12 ft lb snipers who shoot 70 yard shots and tell ya that 7 ft lb R7 is all you need.. SURE IF YOUR THE PREDATOR WITH LASR BEAM ACCURACY

THEY run dead unless brain shot. Nice fallow up. 👍

Going to cut him open shortly and see how that first shot went thru him. I'm thinking it ran up over the vital cavity and down the skin. Can't believe I didn't hit anything internally. Should've been a DRT squirrel.

I know my head shot accuracy is there, but I always opt for a vital on squirrels because they move too much when foraging.

Ok graphic images ahead

Pellet went in left front shoulder and road around and the rib cage, under to the right side and then entered thru abdominal wall and popped out the right leg hip area.

Never entered the vitals, even at 28 fpe from 10 yards.

This is where it should've came thru the rib cage. Left lung and heart are intact.

Crazy to think it didn't even punch thru the ribs.

The right lung was hit one the second kill shot. Looks like I clipped the top of the heart as well, but hard to tell.
