The FX liners in 177 work phenomenally.As long as you don't have your expectations set too high.

I've taken iguanas as far as 144yds with the .177 500mm barrel liner. As long as you get the 1:18 liner which everyone who has them sells them you will be able to shoot 14gr skugs and under phenominally. 15gr and higher you will need to set up a hot rod tune, because for some reason you need an inefficient tune for then to group.

I've consistently hit golf balls with the 13.43gr JSB KO at 120 and 130yd. A local buddy of mine has the rifle, but @Scotay42 has the barrel, not sure if he's used it yet but with the 2 .177 barrels I have had 500mm and 600mm you can shoot slugs just fine. Now if you want to shoot 16gr slugs and higher you'll need the 1:16 twist heavy barrel for the impact.

I've spoken with @mercado and he's had the U1 .177 for years and he sling 16gr slugs at 970fps accurately and without hiccups.

I wonder what the velocity is on the slugs .177 at 144 yards ? Was the expanded pellet recovered from a long distance shot ?

Given the bc of the slug being .043 I got a speed of 657 at that distance. The expansion would be minimal. But I never looked for the slug on that one

Do you know if it's possible to buy it already installed on the gun? Not as an extra

Having put a lot of effort into 177 slugging, I would argue that it’s not necessary to invest in a top tier Uber-powerful rig. That’s simply because no one produces a barrel with a fast enough twist to shoot slugs >16 grain. Most folks end up shooting 10-13 grain at <30fpe. For example, a Katran long can shoot those 177 pills very accurately from its CZ barrel for just over $1k. No sense in buying a Ferrari if you can’t rev it past 3000rpm. Unfortunately, the big manufacturers don’t focus on 177. The guts of the guns are usually .22 spec. To that end, Motörhead once posted a thread on a compact 177 Uragan that he had to sleeve down because it had .22 porting that made it an air hog. As for long barrels, what’s the point if the twist rate is the limiting factor. Maybe the ghost slug barrel will be the first with fast twist (<1:16) but I won’t hold my breath.

Scratching my head on that one, Why would anyone come out with a slug barrel with the wrong twist rate for slugs
Is it that people making the products just do not know enough about slugs? Or maybe they know a lot more than us and the faster slug spin rate will make the slug to accurate, Seems like the UK guys would be all over this with there little pea shooters , Not knocking the UK guys with there underpowered guns they make shots I could never make ,,
I am a pellet shooter 100% I own pellet guns,, But I would like a pure 100% 177 slug gun/Barrel, Made just for slugs.. And if they make the gun/barrel to shoot just one brand of slug, I'd be happy with that,

I completely forgot about the Katran, that is on my list of rifles to get lol

I've heard about a lot of manufacturers saying that they just cannot make a barrel with a fast enough twist rate.

I have a 17hmr and 17wsm both come in either 1:8 or 1:9 twist rates to shoot the 17-25gr projectiles accurately.

Now idk how much difference barrel twist makes between a .172 (RF) vs .177 (Airgun), but from using a bullet twist calculator we would need the airgun barrels to be at least 1:12 to shoot 16-20gr slugs and keep them stable.

I can't remember what the site was but I will see if I can find it.

On that note Alfa Precision makes 1:14.6 barrel blanks and they arent that expensive

Yes, Alfa did it but now those barrels are rarer than hens teeth. I guess the 177 slice of the slug rabbit hole is not big enough to pay for the r+d/tooling.

Jace did you ever get one of those 450mm LC fast twist Alfas?

Yessir I have 1, and I have listed on the classifieds. I got it for the leshiy classic to shoot slugs but the choke was way too tight, like .1755 and .1745 on the lands and grove tight. So I had 3mm cut off and recrowned, now it's a 447mm barrel and the end is a 1775.

I never got to use it afterwards because it no longer fit, but it shot pellets amazingly before the cut.

What speed are you shooting them..? They might need to be in the 950fps + in order to work.. and something no body is going to tell you.. if you don't tension that barrel..you could simply throw the gun in the trash can ..my barrel is 22" long your is 24" with a big and heavy can on the front, so the harmonics must suck .. I have not tension mine, the guns would be simply worthless.. I managed to work and enjoy 3 of them 177 - 22 - 30 .. the 2 .25 I got , I simply could not understand it .. even the scope weight changed the poi ..

I’m really leaning towards the Uragan over the ghost.
Adjustability in The ghost is appealing but there is something to say for set it and forget it too.
If I find a slug the Uragan likes I’ll never change it.

Kinda like my impact, set up to sling 18grn jsb/fx pellets at 880ish fps. Shoots awesome, around 120 shots per fill, I’ll probably never touch the adjustments again.

I am curious as to what length barrel airgunmike has on his Uragan that doesn’t like slugs. Really hoping he’s got a compact.
