Glass Nirvana ?

Currently my 13 year old go-to S&B PM2 5-25x56 with H59. I dial elevation and hold for wind.

I've used 5-6 different scopes throughout the last 5 or so years in this type of gun game and nothing stands out in particular. Most were mil/mil FFP.

Even did well with a Athlon Helos G2 2-12x42 DMR on 12x because 12x doesn't magnify shakes so bad, and the center dot is large, so it was kinda confidence inspiring to use and turned out to be a fun experiment.

My Helos G2 6-24 was left on my nice 22rf I use for UFT because it has good illumination in the APRS6 reticle which helped me in our night matches.

I’m going to give the Athlon Optics Helos BTR GEN2 6-24x56 Rifle Scope a try on my UFT rig. It has a 34 mm diameter tube body but the overall rig weight still sits at 12 lb 6 oz.

Fortunately my 22rf is lightweight, IIRC 7.5 pounds, so heavy scopes aren't too bad on it for offhand.

That's a different story with my HPX, which is already heavy, so I bought a Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22x50 to put on it because it's 21oz's or so which helps keep the weight down for offhand. Then what happens???, the MD decides to let everyone shoot off bipods or tripods for the offhand stage. Oh well now the LHT is on another gun.

My collection kinda mirrors yours. When I shot HFT, I used a RAW HM1000 and a Hawke Sidewinder 6-24 with the 20X 1/2 mildot reticle. Of all the scopes I've owned including other Hawkes, Sightrons, Arkens, Athlons, Aztecs, UTG, blah,, blah, blah, I liked the Sidewinder best because it ranged well and it's reticle suited me best for holdover. Ya, maybe the optics weren't as good as the top drawer stuff, but so what. It got the job done. Now for BR? Sightron 10-50 all the way with either the fine cross hair with dot or MOA-2 reticle. I've looked through some of my friend's March and Nightforce scopes and didn't like them either for the tight eyebox or funky reticle.

Now, after sifting through my other scope collection for general shooting, my latest acquisition is an Athlon Heras 6-24 SFP ( I don't like FFP scopes, but you can get one of these too). I really like this above the Midas-Tac, Helos, Arkens. It's only downside is the 32 oz weight. I think, for each of us, there is no one scope that does it all. That's why we buy so many.

What is it exactly you like more about the Heras over the Midas Tac? Like ranging, glass, reticle, or what? The only Athlon I've tried is the Midas Tac, and it really good scope to me, that's why I'm curious about the Heras.

I like the fact that the Heras is SFP.

I really couldn't say for sure. I have a couple of 6-24X50 Midas Tacs and like them. I just bought a 4-20X50 Heras. It has a 1 inch tube vs the 30mm, but I can't tell the difference in brightness. It's reticle is just a tad thicker than the Midas which I like too. You will be pleased with either one, I'm sure.

I really like the 6-24X50 Midas Tac. It ranges better than anything else I've tried. The glass looks pretty and it's held on my full power prosport so far. I paid like $550, you can now get them for like $380 or something. I also like 1.0" tube scopes, I've had more of those than any other. The bigger tubes are just for more travel up and down, left to right. I can't tell much of any difference between a 1.0" or a 34MM as far as brightness. 1.0" or 30MM is all I'll buy from here on.

Nice.

I also like that the reticle has a tad more line thickness at .05 MIL.
