Going out to 240 yards, with Red wolves, a 25 with pellets and a 17 with slugs

The next logical step for me was taking it longer. Both the 17 and the 25 are set up, I just needed a bench and a target. So I cobbled one together. I will be doing something a little more formal, at 250, But this worked for today

I shot the red wolf 25 with the 34 grain. It did better than I thought it would. It’s the last target down below. I shot it first. It was pretty much all over. Very much affected by the wind. It was dropping so much more. A couple times I put three in a row that we’re close together.

The real story today is of course the 17. The best group was under MOA…at 240. I almost did it again a few times. But it’s easy to have one stray at that distance.

thats two shots, one tight on the left edge, I had moved it 100 clicks and was holding on the top of the target, it was still way low…but I knew I heard shots hit, took me a while to find them

That’s sub MOA …at 240

I shot a few more groups right at dusk with the mosquitoes attacking. Two of them could’ve been awesome, see below. Four shots in a row were right around an inch.

and finally the 25 With 34 grain pellets

The three shots on the left were an attempt at a second group.

As always... Good Shooting, Mike...!

I found that the 34 gn fell apart somewhere between 220 and 289 in my RW at 900 fps. A friend has a place in the cinders in northern Az that I visit occasionally and has targets at 220 and 289 where we can see the splash in the cinders. At 220, I could still hit or be very close to it... about 7" tall and 3" wide. At 289, my apparent group size was 4 to 5 FEET. My 22 using MRD's @ 980 was still able to hit the one at 289. Haven't tried the 177 slugs very far.... I should do that. You and Soren are killer with them.

Your 34 gn target looks like it's past the useful distance to me also.

Nice posts.... keep it going....

Bob,

I appreciate the feedback.

I would love to see some really long range groups with those 22 redesigns. I do not have enough confidence in that pellet.

i’m going to be moving my Heli board from my 25, back to my 22. I will be shooting mostly slugs at long range, however, I do plan to spend some time with the 25 grain pellets.

this is such a mental game

I hate to post a single group but this day was incredible... every thing I shot at was similar. Not a lot of wind but I held up, down, left, right... depending on the wind to get this 15 consecutive shots at 91 yards. It was a GREAT batch and shot extremely well every time. I wish I had a PILE of them. Wally mostly shoots everythingfairly well but this was exceptional for us. I recently bought a new batch and the wife and I tested them at 50 before our match last weekend. Mine would keep them ALL well inside a 1/2" circle where hers was barely all inside a 1" circle. We switched to a proven batch for her and she sot 2 consecutive 1/8" groups.

Point is... if you try some different batches, one may surprise you. We've tried to figure out why, but not had success.

I really enjoy your posts...

That’s really impressive Mike. Well done. You are a master of the shooting sciences! Really good technique obviously, and from a lawn chair and a card table wow! Thanks for sharing your progress, it is really fun to see the potential of these rifles. Someday I must have one, although I’m not a tinker or tuner and electronic guns intimidate me. Again, congratulations on such incredible success. Awhile ago AZ asked me if I knew who you were and explained that you were the guy shooting tiny groups at extreme range on the forum, and that I should check it out. I told him I knew exactly who you were lol!
