Good Scope for Beeman R9 springer

Hi All,
So, I am planning to surprise my father with a new gun. He loves barrel break springers.
Currently he shoots Slavia 631 (same one I was thought to shoot 30 years ago) with cheap scope (9.99 from Walmart no joke).
So, I want to get him a Beeman R9 .117 and need a decent scope to match. Father is 79 years young and still has eagle eyes.
Primary purpose for this setup; “Hunt those damn chipmunks from mum’s garden” his words lol
So, what scope would you recommend for an older gentleman something decent up to 400 bucks?

Bushnell Legend, not expensive. You do not want a large heavy scope cluttering up that nice R-9...not much over 14 xpower with 40mm bell and one piece mounts. Also the smaller Sightron and Nikons scopes are light and good. The newer Hawke Vantage and better yet AirMax.
Stay away from those heavy Chinese scope,Philippines made scopes are a better choice ...some of the better Burris scopes are also good.
Bushnell Elites are the cats meow. When choosen a scope look at the weight and length and make sure it is Springer rated!

I was told by my Athlon dealer that the Neos line is the only models that Athlon makes that’s not springer rated.

Then i guess that no questions asked lifetime warranty dont apply to them ?

I mean you cant say that and offer this kinda thing. , Right?

Theres guys throwing the neos on springers no issues . One guy with a r9 likes his at gta.

Q: Is it Airgun rated as in break barrel recoil?

Answer this question

A: I just called athlon customer service today. Person I spoke with said they are all rated for all air rifles

Thing is if they stand behing there warranty and no questions asked then all they need to know there scopes broken and fix it..

That’s just what my local dealer told me. I went to his shop to get a scope for my HW95. I bought a Talos that day and he had the Neos as well. His exact words to me was the Talos and up were considered springer rated. That has nothing to do with the warranty.

Nothing to do with the warranty? Seems alot to do of they're not backing up no questions asked. I was told by them i could mount there scoped on anything and there fully backed up .. i think uour dealer is sorly misinformed. If i jad my old device i could show the athlon email on that cause i save things like that in case i need to put there words back in there mouth when needed..

No where on thete warrenty form it asks anything but biref discription whats the problem and your return address. Not even a sales slip nothing .. i think he told you that to sell you a more costly Talos..lol

🙄 I guess your right he got me on a $25 increase in cost of scope.

Looks like you already decided and purchased but mine has a Hawke Airmax 4-12x40. Rings or a 1 piece mount is a personal choice but I used reversed Hawke Reach Forward Match mounts for mine. My HW95 has the same scope only in BKL Double strap rings.
Ya'll are making me think I should give the Athlon's a chance though, since I keep reading good things about them...lol.
