I'm mimicking tazhunter0's post. But it's really more a specific question. I have an HW97 with a UTG 8-32x scope. I took it to some indoor ranges to get it on paper and start a sight-in process. I was shooting off craptacular rests (some sort of shredded rubber thing and then blocks covered with duct tape). The idea was to at least get windage zeroed in and maybe get it shooting a tad high at 20 yards without having to worry about wind, etc. Then I would work on shooting at longer and shorter ranges outdoors and with my sitting position.
I have put my hand between the forearm and rest and used a wadded up cloth to provide "give." I think I have sorted out the vagaries of shooting from a rest, but didn't quite get it zeroed where I want it before starting on ranging work and confirming/denying what I get from Chairgun. I started using JSB Exact 8.44, which grouped well, but I also have a tin of HN FTT 4.51 that have been recommended.
Is it a fool's errand to try to get a fairly precise zero with a springer from a bench? It seems like the longer I shoot, the more my groups open up. I'm sure a part of that is cocking fatigue and also the fact that I start thinking too much.
Grateful for any tips on establishing a base zero before moving on to more FT specific shooting.
