Got this little gem. $55 and I installed my own tune kit…need opinions.

So I got this rare stock Diana 34 .177 cal. Found it for $55. Turns out it did not need a single thing. Cocked real smooth and no spring twang. Being the man I am…I opened it up regardless. Seal was a little chipped, but I had a new one on hand. Replaced that. Guide rod was loose. To remedy that issue (for all those tuners out there this is something cool I picked up if you want to fit a guide rod on a budget)…you bend the spring slightly on one end. Then when you insert the factory guide rod…it will straighten the spring out and fit real snug. I also installed a PTFE sleeve. There is absolutely zero spring noise. Re-lubed and reassembled.

The bluing was rusty on some parts. Removed the rust and now I intend to cold blue. Not really going after a perfect finish since it is a $55 rifle. Rifling looks good.

What I need opinions on is…how should I go about the stock? I want to keep the red paint...should I just can it? What paint would match the current paint?

It looks like the stock's neck has burst, a new stock is needed. I bought my flawless one m34 for S100 with a Hakko/RWS scope.

It looks like those spring ends could be flattened and polished a bit better. That should extend spring life quite a bit. Aside from that maybe a polish job and some sort of coating to keep it from rusting, or just leave it alone and use it as a beater. The 34 is a great little truck gun regardless of how it looks!

Mine is dated March 1986

I am glad I got the luck of the draw with it being a pre-90s model. At some point in the 90s, Diana used Chinese made barrels for a little while.

The M34 was my first foreign-made rifle, I bought it 25 years ago right after I got married as a wedding gift to myself.My wife and rifle are still with me.

it would have been a rare rifle when new and the condition is what it is
the metal will never be perfect why should the woods finish

Sherwin williams can match the paint but i would strip the paint and repaint otherwise it will be lumpy and look terrible .

Those marks are like scars they tell a story . Let it keep its unique character.

I could probably restore it to a very good condition, but I have a lot of experience in restoring dug ww2 weapons from the ground. And I definitely would not turn to the forum for advice, only experience can help.You may need this German remedy, unfortunately it is not sold in the USA.

I would leave as is. It looks cool, it’s a beater. If a stock comes up in the future, a price too good to be true, jump on it then. Crow
