We had a nice turnout for our match this past Saturday. I was expecting a smaller turnout of around 18 people. I figured the excessive heat here in TX was probably keeping many at home as you have to be a little crazy to shoot when it is this hot. At the last minute I had a number of people contact me to say they were coming. I guess there are 26 crazy people in TX that want to shoot FT no matter how hot it is. A last minute entry was a new guy, Matthew Sawyer. Turns out Matthew is no stranger to FT and had just moved from Boston to Austin 3 days earlier and wasted no time to find a FT match to attend. I decided I needed to put two top notch shooters on the same squad as Matthew. David Alsup was there, that gave me one guy to put on Matthew's squad. I needed a 3rd to put with them. Normally I would have put Mike Vredenburg with them but Mike was shooting his spring rifle this match, a rifle he hadn't shot in a year. So I decided to put Bob Dye with David and Matthew. I needed somebody to let this new Yankee know he couldn't just move down here and whip up on us Texans! Well Bobby Dye did it by cleaning the course with a perfect 48/48 score. Congrats to Bob! Awesome performance. Matthew we are glad you made the move to Texas and look forward to seeing you around the 4 Texas FT clubs. You shot very well. Other great performances from David Alsup, Ron Robinson (shooting his Chinese rifle), Jeff Cloud hammered the Hunter Piston Class, and Mike Vredenburg with a great score in Open Piston. We also had a great Performance from Mark Black in our PPAA (fun)Class with his personal best score along with Bobby McElvany with 2nd in the PPAA Class (this was Bobby's first FT match). Congrats to all. It was a fun day.
