Great Performer - Yong Heng Compressor

This morning I charged an empty 3L scuba tank to 300 Bars. It took 21 minutes and the auto shut off pressure which I dialed to 300 Bars measured the same on the tank gauge when it shut off. That works out to 39L of air per minute, which is very close to the compressor’s spec of 40L. The 5 gallons of water I had was a bit less than needed to keep the temperature below 65°C. So I swapped the pump into 2 gallons of water at 14 minutes, which started bringing the temperature down. I have a much better pump ordered, so I’ll see how much water I need next time.

In operating the compressor, I have both bleed valves open and let it run for 15 seconds to get the oil circulating as well as starting with no load. Next I close them off and very slowly open the tank valve and let it fill up. Shortly I’m going to install a check valve in the line at the tank end, so when the tank is full, I can open the compressor bleed valve while running to blow off the pressure before shutting it off while the check valve will maintain the tank pressure. Basically a wear reduction thing that will let the compressor spin down with no load instead of abruptly stopping from the pressure backlashing the pistons. Honestly, I don’t have anything bad to say about other than managing the heat, but with a better cheap pump, a little more water, or maybe throwing a big bottle of frozen water into the bucket, that should take care of that.

As far as oil, I’m using Mobil 427 ISO 100 which was the only local option. I’ll likely switch to synthetic once the gallon is used up, Mobil 827 or that Royal Purple Synfilm that many seem to like.

By the way, I’ve come across many who order this compressor shipped from China, and usually the base model. Shopping around for mine, I found a seller in the US who has the 110 VAC adjustable auto shut off pressure model for the base model price. It took 3 days to arrive.

It’s the real thing for $268, free shipping, and came new in a big crate.

Uikahuren, have the same unit from same seller as you. My set up. 5 gal bucket of water with about 2 qt container of ice cubed. Stick the pump about 4 " from top of bucket (you want it in the ice). After warn up I top off my 30 min Scott from 2800 psi to 4300 psi and the temp never exceed 55 cel with the pump around the ice. I use DeWalt synthetic compressor ok. Over 30 fills and still going strong. I have the bucket and compressor on floor and tank above in work table with golden rod in up right position. Water pump provided is ok if kept level with compressor. Ice in water to keep temp in check is the key.

20 minutes is the max I would need and I think with this new high capacity pump I ordered, it should keep the heat in check. As far as the filter. It gets no liquid in it and the molecular sieve beads are packed tight so no need to prop it up. It seems to be a really aggressive moisture remover. No evidence or odor of water or oil.

I bought a Yong Heng look alike and the rod failed the day I got it just filling my bottle rifle. I contacted the seller and he sent me a whole top end. piston cyl rod etc.. The rod that went bad wasn't bad enough to scrap so I had it bored and I put a brass sleeve with Teflon coating. I have run it a few times for about 5-7 minutes and the temp only got up to 38C. I posted the fix. If you would like to look at the fix search this post:

connecting rod rebuild Yong Heng look alike

a video of TVT Green.

I stopped by this place and watched the comparison and there are no smoke and mirrors

One thing to note I ran it in winter out in my garage and it was really cold out. Not sure if that made a big difference and I added a oil that is very slippery it is called TVT Green.

I will be running it tomorrow for the third time. the fix only cost me a few dollars for the sleeve. I was a off the shelf sleeve and was only 3 or 4 dollars. the machining didn't cost me anything. I know a lot of people in machine shops. I need to empty the bottle and let it do a complete fill. Probably do that tomorrow.

Hope this helps a little if you run into problem.

Once I get the check valve installed I won’t be using the adjustable pressure shutoff that much. Just open the bleed valve and shut off.

Would you please share where, what kind, cost of check valve you get? The rest of your info is priceless. These compressors are a hit or miss situation...finding a genuine Yong Heng compressor, not a knock off re-branded unit from China has always held me back. I'm getting one of these and would like to know how your check valve is installed.

Many thanks....

Nice! I hope I won’t need that anytime soon, but it might be good to know. I would think using it in the cold it might better to go with a lighter weight oil. When the Mobil 427 oil runs out, I’ll likely go with a good synthetic. Lubes better when hot because of less polymers needed to hold viscosity. I have about 2 hours on mine and it runs and sounds fine. Babying it by starting with no load and let the oil circulate and having a 20 minute max run time. Good luck with your fixed compressor!

I’ll let you know after it try it out, if it works good. I have a little reservation about it. I found one that conveniently 1/8 NPT M and F.

Nice!

I ordered mine from the same seller [Nov. 26th 2K18]
Also the 'auto shutoff version', but lucked out and got mine for $242.50

I've filled 5 pcp guns countless times, and, completely filled a 95 cf carbon fiber tank
from 0psi to 4,700psi once, and have topped it back off when it drops to 200 bar several times..

The compressor has functioned perfectly so far.

Only using the OEM cotton filter, OEM pump, and I run Royal Purple Compressor Lube..
I do have components to built another bigger / multi chamber / multi particle filter,
again, I just have to get around to actually throwing it together and plumbing it in..

That said, I think it's about time I should do the 1st oil-change.. Just to be on the safe side..

So far - So good!

🙂👍

Sounds like everyones Yong Heng is working great for them. Mine work ok. But won't not fill past 4000 psi. When it got the 4000 psi it slowly or don't even move at all. So upgrade to the hatsan lighting. Much more quiet and fill faster imo. What's nice is no more carrying that 5 gallon bucket around and having hose hanging out. Plus auto purge is nice. Don't have to keep watching every 5 mins to Bleed. Set it and let it do the job.

My Yong Heng compressor works beautifully and I timed the flow rate to be 39L per minute. My setup which over filters the air cost me $729 with a 3L tank that charges from 0 pressure to 4500 PSI in 20 minutes. I never have a need to bleed the compressor every 5 minutes. I just set the pressure level I want and let it fill the tank, put the tank in its shoulder bag and I’m set for a day or two. It sounds like you either got a bad one or a not so good clone.

Very good! I took time putting it all together and put molecular sieve beads in 3/4 of the large filter. Shortly all the fiber will be in a separate first stage. I’m also adding a check valve after the last filter to hold the tank pressure while I bleed the compressor before shutting it off to reduce piston backlash stress. I’ll likely use the same oil you are when my Mobil 427 runs out.

I’m thinking on buying one of them (compressor) I was thinking of buying two filters, two gold filters, one to pack full of cotton filters and the other a combo of dissecant media with cotton media to keep the loose media in place. Have seen several vendors on ebay. Could you suggest the source for the gold filters and media? I’m also interested on your check valve selection.

I use the same start up procedure as UH. I don't have a bottle or tank I just fill rifle at the work bench. Takes like 2 minutes. It never goes above 45c before it's filled.Auto shut-off matches that on the gun. I purge it right before it's done filling.Spits out a little moisture. I keep a large Blue Ice pack in the freezer but so far have'nt needed it. Has'nt gone above 50degrees F and been calm enuff to shoot at the same time. Have'nt had it very long,2 months or used it much, a dozen fills or so. I put that Royal Purple syn oil in it. And added the gold filter. What do you use to line the filter with to keep the secafant? from making contact with filter body?

I don’t line the filter with anything for the aluminosilcate beads. I’ve read things by a couple people about that being a problem, but I can’t find even one scientific or chemistry article alluding to these beads being a problem in contact with aluminum. After several uses I see no evidence at all of any reaction with the aluminum. It’s shiny as and unblemished inside the tube.

I pack and settle the beads into the tube tight and use a 3cm plug of the fiber filter in each end fit snugly up against the beads.

One big improvement to keep condensation out of the large separator is to not use a filter in the small black compressor separator. The fiber element when soaked spits water into the large filter. With no filter the water just collects in the small one and doesn’t get into the large filter. The fiber plug stays almost dry at the inlet end. The beads will last longer without that condensation spitting into the tube. I have about 3 hours on the beads and the blue indicator beads are about half faded. My 2 lb jar of beads will last a very long time at that rate.
