Great White / Tiger Shark HPA Tank Questions

Well, I tossed over to the dark side with this Impact and have outgrown my Hill MK4. I'm in the market soon for a larger HPA tank (all I have now is a 90ci Benjamin). Couple of questions for anyone that can help:

  1. Filling the HPA tank - what would the most common fitting be that shops could work with to fill tanks like these? 
  2. Trasporting - I saw the AirTanksForSale has an armor package, how are you folks transporting your tanks from A to B though? I considered putting it in my largest Pelican case, but with that kind of pressure - I doubt the Pelican would help!

  1. Hi mtmGhost,

    I can not speak to the fittings. I have been using the fittings that came with it and it is hooked for use to my Omega charger.

    Now as far as the armor package I am happy with it. It stands well on the ground when at the bench at the range I shoot from when I want it to stand tall.

    The tank when at its side is where I am most comfortable. It is secured with two small bungee straps that holds the armor secure. When going from A to B it sits in the cab of my truck and is always where I put it when arriving to B. The fish net wrap I think at best if out of the stand is good for rolling on cement surfase without chipping damage.

    With care when travel I have no fear with the tank package.

    I also have the Omega buddy bottle that I felt needed a home. I bought a Craftsmen tool box and lined with foam cutouts for travel. My skill level for the cutouts is not nearly as nice as Pelican does with their custom shop. however it is secure enough for my needs.

    The web site for Pelican does offer the service if you buy new foam. I am doing so for a centerfire rifle I had built, but had to have a friend take over as my skill level for the software is not up to par.

    I hope this helps a little for your decision.

Ghost I have a great white with a din 300 scuba fitting on mine joe can set you up , but there are other options out there like pya - aoa - Utah air guns ect . Crosman has a site for fill stations . I transport mine in a 8 in . pvc tube with memory foam at each end one end , it has a glued on cap for the bottom the other end a plug . check the search box because BigTin Boat has a good example of it . I also made a cushioned wrap out of headliner material to go around the bottle attached with Velcro . Darell

The dive shops will use the same fittings that are on your Benjamin/Tiger Shark/Great White but they use a hose with a female connector. They will probably have a double male connector which you can buy for just a few dollars from Amazon, PA, Joe, etc. The full armor package is the way to go. I had three of Joe’s larger tanks and one Guppy and the larger tanks had the package. You can easily make a package of your own from stuff in the shop and get straps from everywhere. Scuba divers use straps too. I have a Benjamin tank and a 74 cu ft AV tank. I bought the straps from PA. I made a wooden rack for storage and transportation. I have a nice canvas bag that I bought on AMAZON specifically designed for 6.8l tanks (74 Cu ft/Tiger Shark). It is great. I bought a rubber boot from AMAZON, too. So I made the stand (feet) and bought the strap, cover and boot from AMAZON. I think Joe’s package would have been cheaper but I like what I have.

The fire departments use a fill adaptor different than what we use on our SCBA tanks..

I have a GW with the armor package and wouldn't change a thing. Helps tank stand up if needed and protects the body from dings. Still have to be conscious of the valve at all times but that is just part of the process. Mine came with a Foster fitting and Joe Brancato fixed me up quickly with a simple screw in adapter for fire station filling. My local fire station fills mine no questions after an initial inspection visit. I drilled a hole in the armor package foot and screwed the fire house adapter into that for storage and it works great. Can remove the foster and place the fire house adapter in just a few seconds for fire house filling if needed. A Yong Heng topped off the GW from 3600 to 4500 in 20 minutes with no issues also.

Thanks for replies. There's a fill station reasonably close to me, I'm thinking I should splurge on a larger tank and hold out on a compressor. I don't get to shoot enough to justify costs for one - it would take me eons to break even vs. paying for occasional fills on a big tank.

Forgot to mention, I also have a Din300 to male Foster fitting for my Benjamin. I ordered it after finding out that closest filling shop that had a Din was about a 50 minute drive each way. Haven't taken it to the shop that is closer yet, the guy behind the counter said they'd be able to attach their equipment to a male Foster fitting, but the guy was flakey as hell and I honestly do not think he understood what a male Foster fitting was.
