Greenhorn from San Antone

Howdy folks, Steven from Texas here. I have a squirrel and opossum problem. The squirrels are helping themselves to my pecan tree. The opossums are bullying my cat for his food. Originally there was just the one opossum, but last night I saw 3! They’re getting bold now.

Looking for an air rifle that I can can proudly call Ol’ Reliable. I’m also looking for quiet firing, since I will have to do night-time firing. I live my grandparents, and my grandma is a light sleeper. So silence is a big plus. It also needs to be powerful enough for quick and humane dispatching.

The distance I need to cover is from 20-45 yards. Again, I’m also looking for discretion and a low sound profile. I have started to look into forums and gather as much information I can. I’m thinking of sticking with .22 but is that overcompensating with the 20-25 yard distance?

I’m looking at PCPs because of the lack in kickback, and from what I’ve seen they fire more quietly. I wanted to ask the experienced and educated. Thanks y’all!

Welcome! Pecan fed squirrel is one of my favorite game animals! I used to get my fill when I lived in Louisiana, so I am a little jealous!
If it were my money to spend, I'd look for a proper PCP air rifle. I tend to steer clear of Gamo offerings and I am not a fan of needing to replace gas canisters. Something like a Diana Stormrider might fit the bill (it's a little more than the Umarex). You would need a $50 hand pump to go with it. But at least you wouldn't be bound to buying more cans of air when you run low. Just my $0.02. I am sure others will chime in as well.

Thanks! I’m starting to look more into Dianas now.

Thank you, I’m looking them up now
REMEMBER this : Possums freeze when shot . SO shoot them any where and then walk up and gangland style dispatch them . you do not need the expense of a PCP . i like the suggestion of a 392 multi pump . 20 to 30 yards and 5 pumps dead squirrel and froze possum Easy , my version of a 392 is over 50 years old and still a great gun , accurate and one drop of oil every year .
EDIT: quiet also
