FNG here from the wet side of Washington. My history with airguns is quite a way back. I’ve been super shocked at where we are at now. Trying to catch up is like drinking from a fire hose. Not much of a bench rest guy. I’m really looking to nail a few squirrels to keep them from nesting and tearing stuff up around the yard, maybe some birds. Can’t stop looking at the Avenge-X but think that the 210 tube would be plenty for me. Actually the 19.6” barrel with a moderator would probably set me up well. I like the small Notos but don’t think it has enough oomph in case I go off the deep end as per normal. Been reading a ton. Thanks ahead for all you airgun vets out there sharing your intel. Much appreciated!

Welcome, there are a lot of great people here willing to help you spend lots of money on air rifles. The Avenge X is a good option for an entry pcp, but kind heavy and unwieldy for a woods walker in my opinion.

Take a look at the Stoeger XM1 Scout or Bullshark for something budget with good performance. Snowpeak makes them and they also have some other configurations on the market if you want a wood stock etc. Many members here have been happy with them so far, and the Stoeger brand has a 5 year warranty. That is what I would spend my money on today if I were starting out. 22Cal is my favorite for small game hunting and pesting, but the 177Cal ammo has come a long way recently.

The Notos also has a big following here, but Im with you and wish it had a little more power out of the box.

Thanks much, that XM1 Scout looks interesting, wish it had the baffled end like the bullshark, but looks like it could be a winner. I've got a couple Stoeger/Benelli scatterguns. Never had any need for warranty work but that warranty sure takes some of the fear out if they'll stand behind it.

@slugdug - Welcome to AGN! The biggest change in this sport lately are the compressors. The prices and choices is amazing. There are entry level compressors that are less expensive than my first Hill hand pump. GX seems to be the new kid on the block with a lot of models.

There are a few PCP makers who have figured out hammerless semi autos. Huben and Western airguns are the big kids on the block. The Huben GK1 is crazy. I get 57 shots! at 16 fpe! With a pistol! Crank it all the way up and it is north of 50 fpe! And they managed to make the trigger damn near perfect. Amazing.

I never fell quite so far down the axe rabbit hole as I did the airgun rabbit hole. I've got quite a few though and I still want a Puget Sound falling pattern.

Some but only the slip fit tomahawks. It hurts when you split a handle that you spent hours hand fitting.
