groundhogs

I can stalk the ground hogs to within 30y no problem. What is the cheapest gun I could get to kill them at that range. Thanks.

It depends, do you want a multi pump, a springer, or a pcp? You could get a decent springer from a big box store for around $200 and as long as your confident with your shot placement and can make a clean head or heart shot your all set. The UK guys do it with sub 12 fpe guns effectively.

OK. Thanks Jed. I know a lot of guys say 117. for feathers and 22. for furs. But I use a 177. for ground squirrels at this range all the time with no problems. So would a decent 177. take the groundhogs at this range?

As long as you can put the pellet right on target I don't see why not. But accuracy is the key. Happy hunting.

So with good shot placement a Benjamin Titan should do it at 30y?

Yup, as long as that Titan is shooting like it should. I've crushed a family of groundhogs with a lousy shooting (poorly assembled) Vantage NP and el-cheapo Crosman Destroyers. Admittedly my range was more like 15-20 yard shots, but the gun was only shooting in the low 700FPS at the time, so I call it a wash. For these marmots a .22 is better, but within 30 or so yards a .177 will do it with a proper head shot. Just be accurate.

Groundhogs are tough critters. More gun is better as is more accuracy.........closer shots, etc.
So you can stalk groundhogs to 30 yards no problem and they wait while you shoot ?

Yep thats right. The other day i got within 6 feet of one and it only ran away when i threw a rock at it.

Heh, sounds right. The only time they seem scared of humans where I live is when I'm coming with my airgun. Otherwise, they seem to ignore us.

I would go with a Hatsan springer in .25. I remember seeing a Hatsan sniper in .25 for about $200. I would definitely go .22 or .25.

My vote for Hw95 on sale at AOA for 299. This gun is accurate and in 22 cal will knock them dead at the ranges You are talking about . Stan
