Group of the Day - D 🐺 @ 200 Yards

This group not only looks nice it was a blast to shoot.

The first two shots were right next to each other on the left. I was actually holding 2 inches left of the target mark for wind. Obviously I was pretty jazzed with the first two.

The wind picked up a bit. So I moved over two more inches to the left, and missed an inch and a half further to the right. On the next shot I moved an inch more left and hit in the same place. I had four good shots, on the last one I held in the same spot as the second to last. I couldn’t see it through my scope I thought maybe I missed.

Pretty cool.

Most of the groups varied in size from a baseball to a softball. I shot about a dozen groups.

Thanks for the recommendation for the .25 NSA 29 grain HP DB slugs in the Delta at 935 to 940 FPS. I hadn't shot slugs from mine, only the King Heavy pellets (890 FPS) and its very accurate. With the 29 grain NSAs, its also very accurate, and I'll be shooting them at the PRS (NRL-22) event at RMAC next month...

Flint, when the wind is down that pretty much sums up my experience shooting at 200Y with slugs with both the Thomas HPX and the Uragan. One or two great group/s, most around baseball size, and the rest softball sized. Nice to see those small groups like yours here though!

I saw were you were asking why you had bad flyers .Your choke is one problem .You need to remove it. But if you size ,weigh and wash and lube yor ammo ,you will cut down on these issues. Another big thing is get a very larger magnifying lamp and you will see how many hollow points are not centered,these are you flyers. Save the uncentered ammo for 100 yards.Hope this will help.Remember the ammo is mass produced and no 2 slugs are the same .So you have to do your best to get them as close as you can.Looking forward to seeing your next 300 yard group.

Excellent point on off center HP ammo, hopefully more manufactures will join the slug competition, my go to which is NSA has been continuously improving their slugs and I see very few fliers with newer slug. Wish airgun manufactures will produce true slug barrels with no or very little choke. I polished the crap out of my 22 FX barrel so will see if that improves already very good accuracy. Really need to hit the range this weekend, FT related shooting has been taking up all of my free time lately but need to reach out pass 200 yards again.

when you weigh your ammunition, how much should you allow it to vary?

how much does wind factor into this?

I only weigh ammunition for field target championships, otherwise I’m out of the box. The wind is an incredibly difficult factor. If it’s blowing hard with changes and switches, you might as well shoot at some other distance, closer, much closer.

Do you have a recommendation on lube? I used Alox for my .308 texan but wasnt the biggest fan of it, it worked well but looked/seemed like it was dirty, gummed up.

Do you just tumble them around in it and let them "dry" over night? 

My alpha wolf should be here today with 35 gr NSA and I want to get the most out of this thing

No, I do not tumble. I don’t want that much on there. However I have not seen any negative effects to putting to much on, which sometimes happens by accident. I transfer the Marvel mystery oil into a small bottle with a nozzle that allows me to do one drop at a time. Like an eyedropper bottle. I use the top of the tin to hold the pellets or slugs, as we all do. I just put a drop of oil on the tin top, and then roll them around gently, and then shoot. When it gets a little dry I add another drop. Obviously some are going to have more oil on them than others. I have not seen any change in point of impact ever from having too much oil. But I don’t want too much oil. I just want enough.

I’m very interested in hearing how those slugs shoot.
