GX-E-5K1 Arrives

I just took delivery of a GX-E-5K1 today. I ordered from the GX store directly - $900 delivered using their 10% off coupon.

Interestingly, even though I bought from GXPUMPS official web store, it was delivered by UPS and said "Amazon Delivery" on the shipping notifications from UPS.

Below are some unboxing photos for those considering this compressor. For comparison, I found my GX CS2 box and put it in the pictures for comparison.

It is extremely well packaged. As you can see, it is double boxed and the inner box is EXTREMELY solid. I had to remove 16 phillips head screws to allow me to lift the cover off the top of the inner crate box.

I lift weights 4 days per week. This compressor is dang heavy. I pulled it out of the inner box, but I'd imagine that it might be a two person job for some folks - its that heavy.

Check out the bolts for the handles - this thing seems built very solid. It arrives with wheels installed, so once you get it out of the crate box, it is easy to push around.

REQUEST:

This is my first water cooled pump. Do you guys have any suggestions for getting this bad boy up and running? I have some Prestone 50/50 coolant that I'm planning to use - based on what I already read here on this forum regarding proper PH, etc.

BTW - the GX tag says this has a date of manufacture of October 2024.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

Congratulations! The boxing reminds me of how my Yong Heng arrived. Weight may be similar. I use Nuvair oil in my Yong Heng and distilled water with water wetter (an automotive product) in it to improve heat transfer. But I would use what the manufacturer recommends.

I will be interested in what you think of its performance. Thanks for the initial information.

Looking forward to seeing how this works for you, as I am really interested in getting one myself!
What are you going to be filling tank wise?

I currently have a 9L and a 3L carbon fiber tanks. May add more if I like this tank thing.

Thought I’d never do the tank thing - seems stupid - basically regulating pressure between two tanks (aka “filling” your rifle, lol).

However, I have a 100 yard range at my brothers house, and tanks would allow me a portable solution to shoot all day there.

The nice thing about the tanks are that you can fill the gun quickly and get back to shooting :)

And nearly silently. I may buy a smaller portable, I see a role for them, but I am pretty sure I won't change my view that bottle filling is the best. Only downside is you cannot fully fill a 300 bar gun from a 300 bar bottle.
Honestly, that is a pretty limited downside. People seem so focused on maximizing "full fills" when our guns are getting so many more shots on a full fill than we typically need, when several 90% fills are still a ton of shots. Unless of course we are talking about big bores - then I would agree. But then again, who wants to fire up a compressor every two or three shots . . . big tanks are almost a necessity with big bores . . . along with ready access to a fairly fast compressor.

I have 3 gx compressors (2-L3 and a cs4), when these fail, this is the one I’ll be getting, wish I had the foresight to start with this one.
The L3 (2-18v battery) is nice for filling guns directly out in the field, especially the higher fill pressure guns. I also have 2 Shoeboxes, I’ll probably never use again, they served me well over the early years but now are too slow and more complicated than the gx compressors.

I poured in some Prestone and fired her up today.

Topped off 3 580cc bottle guns so quietly and quickly - I was impressed. Seems quieter than my GX CS2s - probably due to water cooling.

Now giving it a test to fill this 9L from zero…

… I know, I’ve got a big a_s filter that I’ll stick on after I get to 100 bar - I’m 17 minutes in and about 1/2 way to 100.

I’ll have to get used to filling from a tank, I always used compressors.

I really like having a tank available (9L) I've even tethered to the tank once it is down to the max pressure of the rifle to get some long shooting sessions in. Back when i had that kind of time haha

The only time I really want a full fill is shooting 30 yard challenge targets with my 30+ fpe guns. Full fill on the P35s is 250 bar so I get quite a few from a 6.8 liter bottle filled to nearly 300 bar. The target only takes 24 shots but add in 6-8 zeroing shots and a partial fill gets close, might not be enough. My Caiman and Avenger take 300 bar but both are tuned to where the shot count is OK with much less. Still, the 300 bar guns are a way I would use a GX if I had it.

Another thing I really like about filling from my bottle is I don't need to see the guns or compressor manometer. The one on the fill set is much bigger and probably more accurate.

The only caution or tip about bottle filling is to open the bottle valve slowly especially if the bottle is at a pressure significantly above the gun's limit. It is not hard to get more air than you want.

Looking good, filling from empty seems to take time

Yeah, I’m a tank rookie, lol. After the gun tanks filled so quickly, I was like “why ain’t the needle moving” when I attached the 9L.

Added this big Tuxing filter -molecular sieve - have the water collector end down. I was prepared - thought about it ahead of time how to keep filter upright. 90 degree elbow quick disconnect from AliExpress did the job for about $6. And an old bungy cord of course.

I use a 9L Great White and a 9L MSA SCBA. The Great White yolk is much more forgiving, the MSA will open up QUICK. I looked into some things and found this video. I added some ball bearings to mine and it helped out a lot.

I'm using the valve that came with my Scott 45 minute bottle. I took the spring out so I don't have to push on it and I think it works fine. But even with a small bore hose on the fill set it will fill faster than I am comfortable with unless I modulate the valve. Not a big deal unless you don't think of it and overfill a little 3000 psi Prod using a full 300 bar bottle.

The fill times you report seemed too fast, Ed, so I looked up what you new compressor is. It's a whole different size compressor. Weight a little over 100 lbs - more than twice a Yong Heng. 1200W when the CS4 is only 350W. Now the fill times make sense. Your comment about using bottles for traveling makes more sense too. The CS2 seems very portable from a weight standpoint. The CS4 is about twice the weight if I remember right. But that CS5 needs wheels to even move around the shop. If you don't already have a bag or something for your bottles you might consider a tray. I made one out of cypress and I like it a lot. Protects the bottle but also has space for fill probes and other little stuff.

It’s this one Jimmy. $900 delivered to your door from the GX Store. More expensive on Amazon.

Weighs 76 pounds.
