GX-E-LS2 BATTERY BLOCKS INTAKE?

I broke down and bought a portable compressor. The GX-E-LS2 is nice but when I install the battery,
the battery basically bumps right up to the air intake??? I'm inclined to drill some holes in the intake "piece"
that holds the filter. Anybody else run into this?
