H&N Slug HP sample pack test results

Hi,

Just feel I have to write a short report on my sample pack test results. I've been quite happy with the Grizzlys for rat hunting, but had occasionally flyers and not always the consistency I have been looking for. So I decided to test the new HP Slugs to see if they could make any difference.

Gun: PCP Benjamin Marauder in .25cal.
Test pellets: H&N HP Slug .249 sample pack 28-36gr assortment
Ordinary comparison pellets: H&N Grizzly .25 32gr
Distance: 32 meters (~35 yards)
Air refill between rounds keeping the pressure at minimum 2k
At the beginning there was some 5-8 m/s wind gusts affecting results, so I didn't put that much emphasis on horizontal deviation.

I started out with a round of 3 shot groups of all the five different sample weights and the Grizzly as the sixt for comparison.
Second round was 5 shots of the three best performed ones from the first round
Third round was 10 shots of the two best from the second round

Results:
1. 3 shot round: HP Slugs of 32, 34 and 36 grains performed best. Grizzlys were not bad either. 28 grains did worst.
2. 5 shot round: HP Slugs of 32 and 34 did do well, the 36 group was opening up somewhat. The 32:s had one flyer
3. 10 shot round: The 34 grain performed remarkably. The 32:s weren't bad, but... and again one flyer

The 34 grain pellets did perform best in all three rounds. So the results in that respect are consistent. What surprised me was how well they performed. I don't think I have ever shot a group of 10 into the same hole - albeit quite a long one. Ok, sure there was a lot of luck, but anyway. Airgun at + 30 meters!!! I'm impressed with what you can achieve with these nowadays.
