Had better luck this AM -

Hit the woods about 6 AM, went to a favorite spot, saw two, had one clean miss, not sure why, as the shot felt good.

A couple of pics of the surroundings -

Was a little discouraged, as the stretched P-Rod wasn't cocking like it should, took two attempts after that miss, so after getting it to cock, decided to move on -

Settle down in a spot nearer the WMA entrance, and was able to stalk one I heard barking, and again I got lucky as he closed the distance and stopped on a limb when it saw me, big mistake,
bogie #1 DOWN!

Picked up the first kill, and sat under a nearby hickory tree with a good view, after 10 minutes or so, saw one to my far left trying to sneak around me, stretched P-Rod says not so fast!

bogie #2 in the bag -

After two kills in one spot, decided to move up the hill to overlook a little draw that now has a small run-off pond from all the rain.

I sat down at the base of the hardwood in the left background of the above pic and waited. After less than 10 minutes bogie #3 shows up at the waters edge, I suppose for a drink, big mistake - my longest shot of the day, close to 45 yards.

bogie #3 down

Starting to get a bit warm, so with three in the game vest, I decided to make a slow walk & stalk back to the truck. After covering less than 40 yards , I jumped one on the ground, and got off a lucky off hand shot when it stopped to give me a look see -

Thanks fellas for letting me share one of my favorite things, hunting chicken of the tree with an Airgun!

Steve nicely written account and nice hunt/shooting. Nothing like stalking squirrels in the hardwoods.

@SteveV Exciting stuff. Thanks for sharing photos and taking us along on your hunt. Is this the same gun in a different stock used in your other squirrel hunting thread?
Nope, this is what I refer to as my "streched" P-Rod - It is equipped with a Marauder 20" LW barrel, a JSAR balanced valve, Hill gauge block, & lightweight hammer, AGR M-Rod Gen 2 trigger pack with custom trigger guard, Fortitude stock, and last but not least, a Huma Reg set at 1800 psi output. It shoots right at 25 fpe, H&N FTT 14.66 averaging 877 fps. It's almost too light, but it sure does carry well!

At one time I owned three P-Rods. The ones on the last two hunts are highly modded, and the other one was bone stock, but traded it to Doctor Kralenstein for a BSA Lightning in .22

What tube are you running on that? Is it the stock fortitude tube?

How's the BSA treating you?

It's actually a modified Fortitude tube, but pretty sure a Maximus tube would work as well. You only have drill two holes for the forward breech screws, and the P-rod rear end cap takes care of the rear screws.

The BSA is needing some work. It was pretty twangy when I got it, and it seemed like the safety was not working correctly, so I removed it from the stock, thinking I could get some moly or Euro tar on the spring, but no go. I put it back together, but now it won't fire! Had to take it back out of the stock and a trip the sear manually. I even tried backing out the one trigger adjustment screw, but it made no difference. LET ME BE CLEAR - I am not casting any aspersions - in the future, would have no issues doing any kind of deal with you Doc!

lol - not trying to make you sorry for asking, as I have a soft spot for these little carbines. My plan is to get it to Dave Slade at some point, then all will be AOK!

That sucks man! I thought you had already got it sorted by Dave. It was definitely twangy. I couldn't shoot it straight to save my life! I thought it was just me since I never shoot springers.

Let me know how it turns out after Mr. Slade works his magic!
