Hades - good for rats?

I have decided to give these Hades a go with my rats shooting. I have tried them before when they first introduced and I compared them with AA, H&N and JSB on paper targets. But in my guns they didn't group well at long ranges. So I never used them for any of my pest shooting.

Since I started shooting rats again recently at one of my permissions, I had to be extremely careful with my backdrop as there were many ducks in the back and the AA/H&N pellets would just penetrate and pass thru the rats. So I need to use something else or lower the power of my HW100T which I didn't want to do as my gun is very accurate at my current setting. So thru a suggestion of my subscriber, I will try the Hades 16gr and see if it can perform since my targets are mainly within 30 yards.

In this video I test the accuracy of the Hades from 30 yards down to 5 yards. Luckily, my HW100T was able to hit the spots repeatedly. As I mentioned before the Hades don't hold as tight of a group as the other ammo, but at these short distances the margin of error is negligible I think.

Last night I did try it out and the three rats that I shot at close range 10 yards were devastated by the impact of the Hades. Hopefully I will get the consistency that I need for rats at all distances. Stay tune for future rats video to come, but for the meantime, enjoy this accuracy test video.

Thank you.

I shoot Hades mostly. Squirrels hat them.

I shoot the the .22 Hades through my Prod. At about 630 FPS .With the Marmot Militia barrel I get good accuracy.
Most all my shots are 20 yards. I get pass throughs with broad side shots on rats.
I’ve shot through a rat and that pellet still went through a wooded fence board.
Just last week I shot this rat. At 20 yards It was facing away from. First pick is where the pellet entered on its backside. Second pick is where the pellet exited.

Have you experimented with wadcutters? I really like them for pesting.

An hour before reading this I finally purchased a couple of cans of
HEAVY wadcutters.

Since wadcutters are customarily very light, they don't stay subsonic in our guns tuned for the heavier stuff.

These weigh 17.00gr in .22,
and I saw them at Natchezz for the best price (free shipping >$100; Midway >$50).
Brand: Air Boss (=Apolo) from Argentina.

Thanks, Matthias! I'll definitely look into them. I just got an NOE 217-20-RF mold and cast with it the first time today. It has a nice meplat but not like a wadcutter.

@Vetmx. I went out this Friday night to test out the Hades again. Every rats I shot within 25 yards were dead as dead. I think the Hades just caused so much internal damage than AA or Baracuda pellets that I have used in the past. Hades are very effective at these close range, but anything past 35 yards would not be a guarantee hit at least in my experience right now. A loud thud could be heard from the Hades when hit anywhere in the rat's body. I think I will continue to use them for the rats shoot. If the rats are at longer distances then I will use the AA 16gr or Baracuda 15.

PS. I have started to leave the dead rats in the field to feed the coyotes and my trail cam has captured 3 coyotes. But I will start a thread under "General" as I have a write up to share with you.

.22 Hades are hole in hole for me out to 50 meters that I’ve shot them so far. The problem is that as soon as there is ANY wind they move around quite easily. I’ve shot starlings out past 60 meters and they hit hard. The windage is a guessing game, though.

I’ve a hard time seeing a pellet outperform Hades for the best expansion/distance hunting pellet. Because they are soft lead, semi-wadcutter design, and have cut outs they dump a lot of energy quickly. If I had one complaint it’s the weight. They are so light that the wind blows them around easily. I’d love to see a 20+ grain Hades. I’ve had really good success at 905 fps with my Taipan.

What’s interesting about them is I have three .25’s that have CZ barrels. Two of them shoot Hades and one won’t. I never tried them past 50 yards because that’s about as far as I’m going to shoot something with them. It’s frustrating.
I have a .25 converted Stormrider that shoots them into one hole at 25 yards but opens up to just over an inch at 50.

I agree the Hades are good for within 30 yards of shooting at least in my guns. Any pellets will get the job done on rats as long as the accuracy is there. I am using these Hades now because I have bought a few tins when the hype was in and now I am just putting them to use. Once my supply is gone, I will be sticking with the 16gr AA or Baracuda pellets for my pesting work.
