Hand wringing in the UK over whether a 50fpe FAC Brocock Sniper is sufficient for "Foxing"

The video that starts this thread shows the shot at the 29-minute mark. The comments are very illustrative of the differences of opinions between Americans and Brits on the subject. I thought it worth a look and a read.

A .25 cal at 50fpe is more than sufficient for a brain shot. The chief difficulty is good placement because they tend to be very fidgety and move their heads a lot.

Back a few years ago I removed several that were killing my neighbors ducks. Used a 30fpe .22 cal from 40 - 50 yards. Very patiently waited for the right time. Each one dropped like a sack of potatoes like tripping an off switch. No death dance like raccoons or squirrels.

Having said that, no way I would recommend it to the typical homeowner or farmer that would likely be picking up a rifle for an unpracticed shot on a varmint in the middle of the night.

Jason, excellent shooting there! POI to the fuse box is....PERFECT! Nice pics, wonderful patience.

I shot 8 coyotes last year with my Theoben MK2 in .25 cal. Got them all at no closer than 50 yards and no further than 85 yards. All of them dropped in their tracks with no twitching. Being as a fox is smaller than a coyote I would have ZERO issues shooting one of them at 85-100 yards with proper placement.

It is interesting to hear what other people think of hunting, and how to hunt. That is the biggest issue when it comes to people trying to figure out laws on hunting. There are many different opinions and EVERYONE thinks theirs are the right one.
