Has A Cartridge Ever Been Tried?

I was sitting here wondering, as I'm prone to do... Has anyone ever tried to develop a cartridge based air rifle system? Much like the powder burner. Except the "brass" or whatever other type of material contains the gas, and is mated to the projectile. Seems like something someone would have tried at some point.

I think so.Something a bit different are the pellets or BBs loaded into a cartridges,I have a couple like this, both are 6shooters.That said they use C02 .
The other thing I remember was decades ago there was some cartridges like you suggested.I am thinking now,it actually could have been over a hundred years ago that there were air filled cartridges.
In the end there were better ways......Sorry,just because I am thinking does not make what I said right, hopefully other with more knowledge will reply.

Yeah I was musing about how many shots I get from some of my CO2 pistols, and wondered, " what if each pellet had its own charge? Scaled up to the PCP rifle platform, it could really change the form factor, and eliminate the need for compressors.

Yes - there was the Brocock BACS/TACS cartridge system. The were made illegal in the UK as people were legit taking them and modding them to fire .38 secial.

I owned one for a bit and while it was fun to load and shoot, prepping the cartirdges was a time consuming pain. About 5-10 minutes prep to take 6 shots.

It comes with a special QD socket that the cartridge snaps into.
The Cartridge can be filled to 4500psi, shoots cast, lube slugs....

Very cool, and innovative as it's namesake suggests. Though stepping back, and looking closer... It's a bit more like a bottle, that can be refilled, than it is a precharged, full on cartridge. I was thinking something more along the lines of an off the shelf, load, and shoot type cartridge...
