Has anyone got permission to hunt at a dump in the US anyone in MA NH, RI, VT, CT interested

Hello,

I have seen several videos in England were the people were shooting at night at a dump after it was closed. See video below

Has anyone ever gotten permission to hunt at a public place once it shuts down of course like the dump.

It it looked like a blast they were shooting rats.

I live in Massachusetts which not a very friendly state in terms of firearms.

I wonder if anyone's ever gotten permission it would be great if there was some type of organization that could go in front of a city or a town and present this as a possible solution.

If you live in NH or Mass and are interested in getting a group together and approach the city I would be interested

@jgg765 A solution to what exactly? In England it’s a little more understandable being a part of an island and considering Europe’s history with Bubonic Plague. Why bother rats at a dump in the U.S. (unless the dump is close to a residential area 🤢)? The trash will likely be pushed into large holes to decompose underground. There are usually flying rats there too (seagulls, pigeons, etc.). I’ve even seen a lot vultures hovering over a landfill site. Why not allow them to scavenge? Pretty sure the animals that eat them aren’t far from the buffet to help control their numbers.

I didn't think that there were many landfills still operating in New England, but apparently there are (see link below). I'm guessing that it would be near impossible to get permission to hunt rats from any publicly owned landfills due to liability concerns?

EPA Landfill Data
The only concern they would have would be from lead, uh huh, you can stop laughing now. But I think the liability issue would be brutal.

Where there is an open landfill the neighboring businesses will probably have a problem with rats. Talk to them. Hunt the edges. Always hunt the edges.

good point I am just looking for some people and a place to do eradication hunting

I hunted the town dump in Waynoka, Oklahoma when I was a kid. Thousands of rats would come out every evening. Hell of a lot of fun. Dad was getting his skills back into shape as he was headed to Viet-Nam. It was 1962. I was ten.
sounds like a blast and you had fun great story!!!

Dumps and landfills are absolutely disgusting places. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go to one for leisure. The last time I had to walk through the local dump I ended up having to throw away my shoes and pants because they reeked of rotten garbage.

Good luck to you.
I agree probably not my preferred place not very sanitary. However, there are not to many dairy farms near me so I am just looking for options in terms of eradication hunting.

@jgg765 I’m sure some farmers could use the help. Maybe talk to some members that do pesting work around farms. Perhaps message @Blackpaw, he really went out there and made things happen in that regard. Check out some of his threads on the topic. Birds and rats can be hell on dairy and chicken farms. Maybe locate some and start there. Perhaps bring a pellet trap? Some targets and an aired up airgun to demonstrate your shooting abilities to someone considering allowing you to shoot.

One thing about permissions in my experience is that it can be tough to get your own foot in the door and even tougher to get permission for other people to come and shoot with you. A few things to think about. My environment and pest out my way are different, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
