Has Anyone Removed Hydro Dipped Graphics from a Black Polymer Stock?

Got a 'used' gun incoming which has hydro dipped graphics on it which I don't really want. Gun is a Brocock with black polymer stock. My preference would be to just strip off the graphics and end up with the OEM black stock, without having to re-paint. If it comes down to it and I need to re-paint, I would probably go with spray on black undercoating 'paint'.

I have read that denatured alcohol does the trick. I will test first on a spot which is not visible when the gun is fully assembled.

Has anyone done this in the past, and if so what (solvent/stripper & method) performed best for you?

My Brocock compatto has some kind of paint or thin polymer shell from the factory. Not sure if this could be a problem for you but you should look it up. My thought on it is that if you used the wrong stripper you may cause cracking and or separation of that shell. Alcohol is probably fine but may not be strong enough depending on the type of paint used to hydrodip your gun. If it's an epoxy paint alcohol may not do it. Wish I could be more help. I probably just gave you more questions than answers. 🤨

I have done a little hydrographics myself at home. Alcohol will usually remove the film IF it’s not been clear coated. If it was done properly it should have been clear coated and alcohol isn’t going to do much to it. You will need something that will remove paint, and I don’t think it would go that route as it might discolor your stock. I would just plan on painting it. You also might find someone willing to trade stocks with you if the stock and graphics are in good condition.

Yup, I bought the used Muddy Girl Sniper XR which AoA had listed.

Maybe I will get lucky and it will not be over-coated with clear. I'll admit that the denatured alcohol use I saw was for dealing with hydro dip which needed to be 'fixed' after it didn't go on cleanly (remove & re-dip). So it had definitely not been clear coated.

I'll try the alcohol, and maybe some other solvents on a hidden location of the stock after I get the gun.

Or maybe my wife wants a Muddy Girl Sniper XR to go along with her Dreamline Classic?

Guess I could just shoot it as is. I've found girls (women) to be much better natural shooters than men...

Depending on the material they use for the "grip" you may end up removing that, or making it really soft, with any chemicals you use to remove the graphics. Have attempted this a few times with Hogue overmold stocks and it didn't turn out well.



May be easier, and look better to strip everything off and loose the grip texture, or just get a new stock and sell that one.

Thanks to all of you who contributed your assistance in this thread.

But as it turns out, Muddy Girl is going to stay muddy!

I got the gun yesterday and I'll have to admit that the pattern and colors were nicer than I had thought from the pics I had seen.

So I offered it to my wife (her b-day is next week) and she loves it. So she will soon be rockin' a new Sniper XR .25 Muddy Girl.

Zeroed the scope, got some chrony numbers and shot some 25 yard groups today. Average 871 fps on high with 25.39's, and all the groups were easy 5-shot dimers or better. One was 4 shots in the same hole, with one 'D'oh' still touching but opening up the group at 3:00. This gun is a shooter.
