Hatsan 95 (vortex) .177 trigger wiggle & crazy tight barrel I.D.!

Fellow shooters......

I have a Hatsan 95 QE (vortex .177) recently purchased off of Hatsanusa.com as a refurb as I was trying to stay on the cheaper side with some features for my friends 1st. Air rifle....

This being said, I was running it over the chrony with the Vortex 8.4s, mounting a scope, and adjusting the trigger per the manual. The trigger is crazy loose side-to-side and the barrel (or rifling) is crazy tight when loading the Vortex pellets! I tried the Pirhanas and the copper 10.6 domed and NO GO! is there some metal in the rifling from machining the barrel end on the breech side? I have other brand break-barrels and have NOT experienced this before!!

Help?!?!....😔

Thanks fellas.......I worked on the 95 again yesterday and was able to load Vortex 8.4/Umerex 8.0 hollow points/& CPHP 7.9s after some light filing of the lands & grooves are the breech end. Under magnification there was a little material from what I believe to be the facing of the barrel end And some of it curled over into the breech.

I was able to bring the trigger down from 6lbs of pull (per my new Lyman) to 2.5lbs. avg.

Surprisingly the rifle shot the CPHPs very nicely! Now to mess with the prefered hold! Haha!

The fun part of shooting recoiling rifles....I love it.

Thanks again for the responses fellow shooters! Much appreciated!

" I was able to bring the trigger down from 6lbs of pull (per my new Lyman) to 2.5lbs. avg. "

Be careful on dropping pull to excessively. Might want to try this. After cocking and loading the rifle point it into a safe direction and give the butt of the rifle a good rap with a rubber mallet. Hopefully, it doesn't go off.

Good advice. I've heard horror stories

I have bought many refurbished rifles and have only received one that didn't live up to my expectations. Hatsan took care of it no questions asked.

Refurbished or on sale is the only way to buy any airgun or PB. Paying full price is insane.

Almost all refurbished I've bought only have minor visual blemishes.

GoldenStateAIRGUNer...

Thanks for the looking out and the concern for what can be a potentially dangerous/destructive situation. I totally agree! I smack the rifle with my hand and bump the stock with the back of my fist to check for saftey when I adjust triggers down. Definately a common practice of mine after I had an experience with a used bullpup I purchased that the trigger was too light. Ended up blowing the leg latch off of my chrony tripod when i set the pup down on some bags upon my Caldwell Stable Table! I about poop!! Check them all the time now after adjustments......

I can promise you that.....

Septicdeath......wow. what a "handle"....

Where did you ever come up with that?!?! I work in sugery and a septic death is by FAR no cool way to pass.....ewww. Yeah, ew.🤢 I'm sure there is some story behind that!

Anyways.....So to compliment your reply, I too have purchased a handful (4) of "refurbished" guns from Hatsan and really have only encountered minor blemishes if any at all! It normally is a $$-saving option! I DO have the ability, tools, and space to repair & tune my own Air rifles. That being said, I am prepared to pay for the savings in some extra labor or TLC to bring a refurb up to my standards if it falls short. With this particular 95 Vortex break-barrel I was taken off gaurd with the tightness of the breech! I was honestly concerned for a day or so that it wouldn't be able to be put through the pellet culling process due to the massive hard push required to seat a pellet. I understand head sizes vary but damn....this was concerning! I was able to get it unser magnification with proper lighting and cleaned up the grooves in the breech end of the rifling.

After that delicate touch I was able to chamber 4 different pellet brands in .177 and am satisfied as I was able to obtain a respectable group at 40yds with this "thwacking" vortex gas ram gun. It does have some recoil friends! Itss gon a be fun to learn her hold.....😎

Thanks for commenting!!

Stay safe to avoid a Septic Death!! 🤢

AG72...

Yeah thanks! Me too......😥

I was beginning to think I WAS going to habe to send it back and I DIDNT WANT TO!! Hahaha! I was afraid it was the only one left at the time! So, yeah....I was able to get it to shoot decent (for the price of the rifle for sure $129.00) as qhat does one expect right?!?! It's not even a $300.00 gun full retail. So, I put work into refurbs at times.....no worries! I get it.

The CPHP 7.9 gr. ACTUALLY found a respectable home in the barrel of that particular 95!! Awesome!👏😎

I love it when the cheaper, readily available ones at your local Walmart or Hardware store are the ones!

How far have you been able to push yours out to? Are you also chambered in .177?

Thanks for commenting! Much appreciated!
