Hatsan Bully air reservoir removal + Altaros regulator update

Hi!
Looking for some advice removing the air tank on my Hatsan bully.

I've taken the stock off, dumped the air in the tank, mounted it in a vice, heated the threads (moderate heat) and tried using a 27mm spanner, but it won't move... (not ready to go full-on Hulk yet)

Anyone had the same problem?

And has anyone changed out the hammer spring? It reminds me of the same stiffness as a magnum spring(er)... I'm getting too much velocity with it adjusted all the way out anyways.

They are designed to be powerhouse guns which is probably the number one reason you bought it in the first place.

Description as per PA AGD review states the bottle is NON REMOVEABLE.

If you replace the hammer spring with a lighter one you are likely gonna experience valve lock so you may have to start at a much lower start fill pressure guessing 2500psi or lower otherwise suffer low speeds till it's plateau as pressure gradually decreases while shooting.

this is the tool you’re going to need. Mainly the bottle clamp tool. Action set in a padded vice.

I’m curious as to why you would need it removed. More than likely for an in-line bottle regulator or to fix a leak? If not any of those, i would leave it be. The last guy I knew who tried removing the bottle off of his hatsan hercules struggled big time, trying to use rubber strap on wrenches, heat, etc. I want to say he ended up using a chain type of strap wrench, and padded the bottle to keep the chain from marring it up.

Might wanna contact AGD to correct them. Don't want anyone having misinformation.

Hey, I don’t mean to pry on what you gots goin’ on, as you only are inquiring about bottle removal. I am very familiar with the hatsan hercules Bully and if you research back when they first came out, all the mods done to them about removing the bottle cover and swapping out the scope rail out for the one on the hatsan bullmaster to better the accuracy was all my doing. In my quest to find a regulator for it, all the big guns- Huma and Altaros, none of them said their inline bottle reg was suited for the 30 cal. Barely suited for the 25. The problem is there is no plenum space whatsoever after the regulator. In fact, if you go on Huma’s website he has wordage in there about his inline reg, made for a hatsan, is not made for the hercules Bully.

There were seasoned pcp vets like BLACKDIESEL that warned me it wouldn’t work, but I had to see for myself!

I even went as far out as contacting a “well known “ in the pcp game that made custom regs for custom guns and once he did research on the Bully his reply email to me was no way.

lastly, it seems the few(two guys)that I’ve seen that have installed the altaros, had to butcher up their stocks to get it to fit, and every time I asked them for feedback on if the regulator upgrade worked, all I got was crickets. At least crickets make a noise, ha ha, I never got any reply back, period. Looking back I’m gad I left mine alone and just tuned it as best I could. It is a thumper, that’s for sure in 30 cal!

Just lookin’ out for ya! Hate to see you run into the same affair and be disappointed.

Much appreciated advice 👍

Ive ordered with the plenum that Altaros sells. Mine is in .177 and is pushing 16.2 jsb over 1000fps. It is fairly accurate with the few shots I get with a flat curve, but it is downhill from the first shot. No real power curve like Ive experienced with other non-regulated pcps.

Bottle cover and rail was removed after I saw the flex it had. Scope mounted with 11mm to picatinny adapter and cantilever scope mounts. Trigger was not good out of the box, much better after adjusting. Made new QE-baffels, the ones that came with it was not good for .177 and made a single shot tray. Barrel, hammer and probe has been polished aswell.

Now I just have to loosen the damn bottle 😁

I modded one for one of my friends on here. It's a .30 Bully with a Huma "extra high pressure" bottle reg. It turned out pretty well, doing about 30 shots at 95-100 fpe depending on ammo. The reg can work, but you need to use a pretty high reg setting. It think the one I did had the reg at 170-180 bar. Keep in mind, it didn't just have a reg stuck on it. The valve has been modified to 1 exhaust hole, it has a PEEK valve seat at .300, and the transfer was opened up to .265. It also has a LW 28" barrel with a 16" twist. Without the regulator, the gun turned out to be a real monster! It did a real solid 10 shot "hunting tune" at 140 fpe.

In .177, I bet it could be a heck of an ice pick slug shooter! As with most Hatsans, taking them apart the first time is a royal pain. They love some red loctite and must use really big wrenches, lol.

I'm liking the words "LW barrel"... this was a custom job?! Or will some other Hatsan "LW" barrel fit the bully? My understanding is that Hatsan's LW barrel is something they make in-house themselves. Barrel on the Hatsan Factor in .177 is really, really pellet fuzzy... would like to change that one out for sure.

Regulator in place, had a minor leak, but seems to hold air now. If I'm looking at this right, there is no need for the extra plenum I ordered. Valve is seated right behind the hammer, so there will be a massive plenum from the valve to the bottle.

It was a custom job on the barrel. I machined the blank to fit the gun. I'm not aware if any other Hatsan barrels will fit the Bully, but I don't think so. With that gun, I'd think an unchoked LW barrel would be just the ticket for slugs and heavy pellets. You'd just have to get one machined to fit. You are correct, you don't really need the additional plenum, especially not in .177. It should be able to make plenty of power regulated :)
