Hatsan Carnivore .30 cal QE. What is in the shroud?

"Tazhunter0"i bought this gun used. It is louder then I think it should be after watching some videos on it. If somebody has one of these guns can you please post a pic of the internals of the shroud. Trying to make sure everything is right on the inside of it.

Thank you
chris
Air guns always sound quieter in video's. Always.

When you see them on YouTube, even powerful big bores sound like a small puff of air but there is no big bore that is quiet out of the box. It can be a bit of a shock when you hear them live.

All the reviews I saw of the Carnivore measured the noise at over 100 db which is loud compared to other guns they measured with the same equipment.

The Hatsan QE shrouds unscrew so you can have a look at the baffles fairly easily. That isn't going to be your issue though. You need more volume to hush a .30. Neil Clague is the man to talk to about getting something more effective made.

If you need something suitable for discrete shooting in an urban backyard setting then I recommend selling the Carnivore and buying something in a smaller caliber. No more than 25 but ideally a 22 unless you have particularly understanding neighbors.... There are a number of 22's that are backyard quiet out of the box at around 30fpe. 25's often need an additional LDC.

From what I've heard anything over .22 the Hatsan QE system doesn't do very well. If you look at alot of guys that have them will either have a Neil Clague or Bwalton LDC on them. What I also find silly is people expect these big bores to be as quiet as there smaller bore airguns. Problem is there asking alot from alot more power AKA more air which means more noise. As long as the gun doesn't harm my ears that's fine with me cause even though the report might not be as loud, the pellet impact is very loud so it doesn't make much difference to me as long as the muzzle report is less than pellet impact no reason for it to be quieter.

Well my Bwalton carnivore i had was silent enough I did shoot it in my back yard without any issues and I live in a subdivision.
I even dry fired it inside the house a few times which was hysterical because the wife would jump every time, lol not that I was doing it on purpose.:)
The shroud does do a nice job of taming the beast .
I know it's no custom ldc but it does work fairly well for what it is.
I'll post up what's inside my gladius which should be the same in the carnivore, gimmie a few.:)

There are more than a few air gun manufacturers that state how much quieter air guns are when marketing them to people who use powder burners. There is also a lot who make claims like "near silent operation" so it is no wonder some people have been given unrealistic expectations in the noise department.

Foot pound to foot pound, many air guns are no quieter than powder burners. They just produce less energy usually and many come with shrouded barrels with baffles. What isn't often clear is that quiet for a 30 cal is not necessarily quiet.

It doesn't help that people perceive noise so differently. I have very sensitive hearing so no 30 cal sounds quiet to me but I have heard other people claim guns like the FX Boss to be backyard friendly. There is no way I could get away with that in my neighborhood though.

For prey that spooks easily, just the impact of the pellet hitting the ground or a tree will be enough to make them run. The only gun I own that gives me a second shot is my Mutant. When I aim so pellets hit the grass if they miss or go straight through, I have been able to take 5-6 squirrels without the other ones getting spooked or running away.

"Tn_airgunner"I got my carnivore. 30 in today and I was surprised at how quiet it was compared to what my expectations were. It's quiet enought for me to hunt with.
I guess that's one way to do it. If you always expect air guns to be much louder then you will always be pleasantly surprised by how quiet they are.

I found a 1600fpe 72 caliber extreme big bore on helium to be mouse fart quiet because I was expecting it to sound like a cluster bomb!

Isnt that a shame. @ years ago we could hunt hog in TN , I have used a .458 before then out of who knows where the State decides to ( w/out being petitioned or such as we would have to do to get airgun hunting ALLOWED) outlaw airguns for anything over a squirrel, just odd politics and no drn or officer I spoke with had any ideas why.
Now get down to some of those Cajon Hog's , day or night , they have much better eatin Hog's anyway.

It usually starts with one person who ruins it for everyone. Some idiot does something stupid or someone selfish (and stupid) gets a little bit of power that they just have to put to good use. The rest of us then get stuck with another new rule that people had been just fine without for thousands of years before.

It's either that or they find a new way to make money out of us. If you have to pay for a hunting license in your state then you have your answer.

The fact is that most animals will die from a head shot from a 22 or 25 if the pellet has enough residual energy to penetrate (which isn't nearly as much as the rules suggest). They would only need to commission some fairly simple tests to find out how much energy is needed for a pigs skull etc. Instead they introduce rules based on nothing at all.

if you told me it was to reduce the potential for animal suffering, I could understand that if: they banned hunting with a bow and arrow (guaranteed suffering) and they banned all intensive animal farming (guaranteed long term suffering). As those things are allowed, I'm going with idiots trying to steal our money.

It's our own fault for not getting organized and forming our own group to give ourselves a voice. Powder burners would have been banned years ago were it not for the power of organizations like the National Rifle association. Those groups won't fight for air guns so we're an easy target.
