My factory hatsan nova star barrel had high and low spots pretty bad. wasnt very tight where the choke was. It shot good but I would always get a flyer. So annoying.

that was on the breech just after the air ports. its really rough, not good machining.Wow just looked at those closer. Is the rifling missing in those pics? Or is that from the breech end, with rifling cut into the breech?
Yeah I get that, I wanted to get a 30 cal for my son to shoot with me when I'm shooting my Dynamic without breaking the bank, but I still expected better accuracy from a $1300 gun. I get that it isn't FX or Daystate expensive, but it still cost more than a decent quality AR powder burner. It isn't exactly Gauntlet cheap either... Funny thing is, he also has a 25 cal Gaunlet that I bought him that shoots MOA, and I got a lucky one. Didn't have any odd quality control issues with it out of the box. I'll pull it apart and go through it this weekend before reaching out to Hatsan USA, from what I've seen that isn't exactly a painless experience either...I know I likely shouldn't chime in here as it's been a few years since I owned my Hatsan AT44-10 and AT44-10 long.
Hatsan guns are all made adequately, look nice and are heavy ... pretty much every gun they sell is on the heavy/long side of things.
They're set-up from the factory for POWER - making their PCP's air hogs .... efficiency is not THE goal.
The guns can be tweaked for good accuracy and their triggers are not bad.
However, compared to a Daystate, RAW or FX - they're not designed the best ... or have the best quality control/support.
My Hatsan airguns required much work to get the bugs out -- mostly not present in the above manufacturers.
Fortunately, they're usually on the inexpensive side and are great for learning.....
I have a .35 Snowpeak M25 wich will be better quality and only cost me €395,-Yeah I get that, I wanted to get a 30 cal for my son to shoot with me when I'm shooting my Dynamic without breaking the bank, but I still expected better accuracy from a $1300 gun. So this barrel is loose all the way to the choke, where it tightens up a lot. Like loose enough where if I stand it up, the weight of the dowell is enough to push a slug to the choke. The breech, at least looks good on it from what I can see. I have a digital bore scope coming tomorrow. I've wanted one for a while,so this was the perfect excuse to buy one.My factory hatsan nova star barrel had high and low spots pretty bad. wasnt very tight where the choke was. I love my FX, but for 1300 bucks this thing should shoot better than 20 MOAI have a .35 Snowpeak M25 wich will be better quality and only cost me €395,-
And yes, i also had to make some aprovements but the price is low and you get a lot for it.
If I want a good out of the box pcp, I take my Weihrauch or FX.
I hope your son still likes to shoot airguns.
I'll fill out the contact form tomorrow for them and see if they will send me another barrel. I know FX would, but I've heard some pretty bad things about Hatsan USAs service. I have some .301Javelins on the way tomorrow, and NSA makes some .303, but I wonder if the choke would be too tight for them. The choke is tight enough that I had to tap on the dowell with the palm of my hand to get an FX hybrid through it. The .300 Javelin went through it pretty easily though. The Javelins are softer lead I think. The hybrids appear to be some kind of alloy...Yeah, that's not good. I'm willing to bet the pellets are going into the choke not entirely straight. And not in any way that's consistant either. Maybe see if you can find some over-sized pellets? You really shouldn't have to do that though. But if the barrel is too big.... Maybe see if you can get them to replace the barrel?
Hatsan already replied this AM (surprisingly).Word of advice. Don't give them any reson to deny replacing the barrel. I'd just tell them it is shooting poorly. I had an idea that I didn't post. The idea being to mark the back of the pellets. On one side like a clock hand. Try and load the pellets with the mark facing down, then shoot them directly down into a bucket of water and see if you can recover them Un damaged. The idea being that you might discover irregular wear across a selection of pellets in relation to the mark if they are indeed engaging the choke erratically. Otherwise you may be able to spot other poor wear marks that may affect accuracy. If they catch any wind you have done any work on the rifle. Even just removing the barrel, they may deny any assistance. This would not be an issue with other manufacturers. But this is my general understanding of how hatsan likes to operate.
As far as choke tightness goes, I think you should need to tap a dowel a bit to get a projectile thru.
Bore scope IMO is a must for everyone! it really useful! Also, try to ask them is it ok for you to tinker with the barrel until the new one arrives? if thats ok?! then go a head and try to polish your barrel and gauge it on the smallest caliber that you have and try to work out the tight spots in it and see if that helps! tbh, it won't take that much to clear those spots. Just go really slow with it while polishing "count your strokes on each spot" until you work them all. and I wish that would work for you!Hatsan already replied this AM (surprisingly).
They said that they don't have a replacement barrel on hand, but offered me the choice of an RMA to have their technicians look at it, or ordering the barrel from the factory for me (unknown arrival time). I asked them to order the barrel. Their technicians can't do anything to fix it without it anyway, so I figured I might as well have the rifle while waiting for it and try some larger ammo through it. I'm assuming the barrel has to be shipped from Turkey. So, fingers crossed during the waiting game.

I recently bought Airmaks Krait 0.22cal and had few tight spots on its barrel and start polishing gauging 0.216 slugs on it and shooting 0.217's and it show good results for now. so, the hunt for the perfect slugs continues!
Any way good luck buddy.
I slugged it today. The bore is .306 (mostly) and the choke is .3015. Even with the oversize slug in the bore I can still see some light coming through the grooves, so it's probably more like.308. It's a 12 groove bore with pretty heavy rifling, and a 1 in 20 twist rate. I still haven't heard anything from Hatsan regarding the replacement barrel yet, although I suspect it will be the same as this one. On the upside, i contacted Amazon to see about exchanging it, and they told me that it is non returnable, but they refunded me and told me to keep the rifle. So... I have nothing in it at this point.Yeah, that's not good. I'm willing to bet the pellets are going into the choke not entirely straight. And not in any way that's consistant either. I've seen some posts talking about epoxying FX barrel liners into carbon fiber sleeves or bored out barrels to use on non-Fx guns, I'm pretty interested in pursuing that to rebarrel it. My Dynamic is a fantastic slug shooter, so I'm already familiar with their barrels. I'll look into the TJs as well, as I've seen good things about them, I haven't seen a lot about them with slugs so far though... I'm buying a lathe/mill combo for some other projects in October once Grizzly has them in stock again, so I'd definitely be interested in pursuing rebarreling it.Well, with savings like that you could easily have a custom tj barrel made for it. Or get a fx barrel fitted to it. I know mountain air custom can do the TJ barrel, but they will not thread the muzzle. I believe you'd need to send the action, magazine, and the old barrel for them to make a new one.
If you go with a TJ and want to quiet it down, Neil Clauge can make you a custom moderator or shroud for it.

I would have a stroke on them if I were you.Lucky you! thats reall good news! I'm happy for you.
I didn't get that lucky when Amazon sent me a box of soda cans instead of GX portable compressor!! since i live in a different country than the USA ''which where i bought from'' I always contact Amazon off hours ''so the customer service reps are from another country which i won't say which!" and its a struggle communicating with them and try to explain the issue!! so, that is more than $400 blown in the wind!
