I have seen, and read, many reviews on this gun and was always amazed by the disparity of the opinions on how loud it is. Some say that it is so quiet, others so loud. Well, my brother got one in .22 that is making 33fpe with 18gr JSB and this thing is seriously louder than my 30fpe Gauntlet. I know, the barrel is shorter and it's doing more power, but still, its loud to me, and he is not too happy about it either. Luckily, or perhaps planned, I guess, the barrel nut that holds on the shroud is threaded 1/2 x 20. I put my DonnyFl Tanto .25 on it and I was floored by the the difference. This was the first time that I was really impressed by the before and after of a shroud to suppressor swap. Then I tried my Sumo on it and it really did not make that big of a difference over the Tanto, which really surprised me again considering the size difference. My brother is going to be buying a Tanto with a cone and cut his shroud to be supported by the cone when affixed. This will end up being shorter and a whole lot quieter. I think he should just lose the shroud but he doesn't like the look of the skinny barrel. Whatever. I just figured somebody might be able to use this info if they don't have one of the quiet Flashes. I am sure if it was summer this wouldn't be as big of a deal. Grass and foliage really soak up sound, but right now there is nothing but fields of ice and snow and the sound is really carrying.
 
 I had my flashpup out 3/01/19.I thought it was kinda loud too myself. Louder than my 2 springers I use,an XS46U and an XS-25 SFB ,both 22s.Gotte give a plug to Flying Dragons Air Rifles and Mike Melick the Tuner. Have had loads of fun with them, XS-25 is my { Precious } Have'nt had much time with the puppy. Not broke in yet. Smoothed out a bit,but a ways to go. Had to shim the bejesus out of the scope rail.Thing was shooting in the dirt it was so bad. But I'm not to concerned about decibles tho.I'm just a backyard plinker living in the country and I'm surrounded by neighbors that all let loose with their firearms from time to time. My biggest Observation are how the magazines sort of just lay in the breach slot,no guide,groove,indentation or any kind of retention other than the bolt pellet probe keeping the magazine from just falling out and it ain't so smooth either. Is this the standard design with all the pups? It'd be good to know if this is how it's supposed to be.

Well, your barrel should be protruding into the breech just enough to accept the cut out in your magazine. If your barrel is flush with the breech block, the you have a problem, your barrel wouldn't be seated all the way. Doubtful, because then the port wouldn't be lined up and you would notice that fast by lousy performance. It is that small amount of barrel doing the holding, and yes you can rock it, but it does seem to work fine. No, they are not all like this, in fact, there is a lot of individuality here, where some standardization would be appreciated. Never going to happen though, BIG money maker. Some are stupid money, so much so that people won't even consider buying the gun in the first place. Hatsan's pricing is fair; now that they are working correctly after the initial fiasco. Most magazines do lock or snap in or are grooved and have magnetic retention. These are the only ones, that I have seen, that can move around so much.

You might want to pull the shroud off or at least the end cap and pull the curlers out and inspect them. Mine were crushed. I baught the rifle used and think that the PO may not have had the shroud all the way to the reciever and tightened down the end cap. I know I did just this and crushed the unbroken one. There are 2 cups, 2 curlers and an Oring under the cap. I ordered a couple new sets of curlers from Hatsan. I am shooting 35 fpe and all you hear is the hammer and a little twang. I think I might look in to a depinger of some sort. But it’s very quit. I shoot it in my basement and you don’t hear it upstairs.

Quad82, this is exactly what I am talking about. I don't doubt that yours is quiet but why is my brothers so loud? I checked the QE components and they are pristine. Everything is where they are suppose to be. The gun is really quite nice and I turned down the power to 33fpe because it actually came shooting on the verge of supersonic with Barracudas. Perhaps we just have different ideas on what is loud to us, I don't know, but it would be interesting if with someone who thought their gun was quiet with the stock QE system would try what I did and see if it sounded the same to them or if the directly threaded Tanto was noticably quieter to them too. Obviously, using an adapter on the shroud end with a Tanto will sound quieter, but, what I would like to know is someones stock QE system working as well as a direct barrel threaded Tanto. I would like to save my brother the expense of the Tanto if I could. If someone knows of a source for replacement internals for the shroud that work better, I would really appreciate that link too. He is keeping the gun either way, we are just trying to figure out if the sound level is normal for the gun and if not why and what to do to make it that way. This is hard to do over the internet and I don't know anyone local who has one.

HeyU, glad to help! To follow up on this thread, I will say that I shot it again when it wamed up (39 degrees vs. 10) and it was a lot quieter with the freshly fallen snow. Amazing difference. I screwed up with the reply to Quad82 too, I meant to say that the gun came to me shooting the CPUM 14.3gr at near supersonic speeds, not the Barracudas. That would have been powerful indeed! My brother is cheaping out and now he wants to wait before he gets a suppressor. Typical.

I am thinking about buying the Sumo, for my FlashPup .25 wood, but I keep seeing reviews saying it is not much quieter than the QE shroud, and I currently have a home made PVC suppressor with only one baffle, about 2/3 of the way to the front (about 8.5 inches long and 2 inches in diameter), which I made to fit over the QE shroud, and it is very quiet, 74 db, you cant even hear it from outside the door of my bedroom when I shoot it. I cant see spending 150$ on the silencer then another 45 just for an adapter , in order to get the same result as a 25$ PVC suppressor, has anyone ndone any decible testing with the Sumo on the Flashpup, with and without the QE shroud?

Sound is very subjective and is tied to what power you are shooting at. If these people, that say theirs is quiet, are running an effecient/conservative tune, then yes it indeed is. I haven't personally read about anybody maxing one out, with a ridiculous Korean cliff tune, saying theirs shot quietly. If you are going more for high power than I personally believe you would want more than equipped sound suppression. That said, nothing you buy will probably be any quieter than what you have done already, it will just look better and be less bulky. If being more compact and sturdier isn't important to you, don't spend any additional money on it. Just screwing a Sumo straight onto the barrel makes for a much nicer handling gun though, which is a big factor for me. That is why most people get into bullpups in the first place.
