Hatsan Flashpup QE .22 with Blackhound Genesis 6-24×50 FFP MIL

i used TWO pieces of a credit card as a spacer between the rail and the gun to elevate the rail. this thing is hard to sight in! what am i doing wrong? i am sighting in at 30ish yards (max length of yard). i tired a variety of pellets ALL hit differently, meaning groups are all over the paper. i need to sight in different for the pellet used. I am using only H&N pellets or slugs. i can actually see the pellet veer off to the left, it curves! i am sure that i am doing all kinds of things wrong. i have a table setup in my yard and bags of rice for stability. When i rest the barrel on the rice bag, it seems the H&N Rabbit Magnum Power hits very close! when i rest the stock on the rice bag, same slug is WAY off, missing the target completely, all at 30yds!

i have a DonnyFL 2x6.25 Ronin (for 25 cal) attached, i noticed, what appears to be clipping at the end of the Ronin? maybe my imagination?

FWIW my Flash QE shoots slug very well (although I don't use them) - the same gun likes the Hades and the CPHP from walmart. I would suggest that you remove as many variables as possible.

-Forget about the DonnyFL until you can rule out other issues.

-Check your barrel to make sure it is snug. Mine was loose at the nut on the QE section. Tighten that bad boy up for sure if it is loose.

-Pay attention to the weight of pellets shot - too light and they can spiral wildly. Pellets shoot best around 800-900 FPS. Can you get your hands on a chronograph?

-Trigger control and post shot break follow through is super important.

-The harmonics of the shot cycle will cause different pellet weights to exit the crown at different places in the vibration oscillation.

If you have a lemon of a gun (it happens with all manufactures) send it back!

90 feet is a bit far. Try 50 feet. And forget the slugs. Get the pellets touching for 5 shots at 50 or 40.

you could have a host of issues so start closer in and forget the slugs.

you could have barrel crown and a few other things

thank you for replying and helping this noob out. i cannot count it seems! my yard is about 60-70 FEET in length, so about 20 yards? still i am shooting at around 30 yards. So move in closer? i will try that in the AM, start at 20 feet?

i am near AirGuns of Arizona, they have Chrony's available. According to pyramid air this is shooting at 1250fps? So most likely around 1000fps? i am using high weight H&N's (Piledriver 29.17gr and Rabbit Magnum Power 25.31gr) Did try some pellets at half that weight but ran out, something with a red plastic tip given to me by my neighbor.

I will start with your suggestions in the AM. Tonight i can see if the barrel is tight, never thought of that.

i want to point out one other thing that i just noticed. check out the distance between the shroud and the air cylinder at the back versus the front, there exists a gap at the back but the front does not contain one? the shroud was loose, so i tightened it up. since i had it removed i tested the barrel, nuts were really tight!

I have a hatsan flashpup synthetic. 25 and mine look's just like this. However, I can say mine is very accurate with the air arms 25.40 and jsb 25 &33 grain. I didn't have any luck with slugs yet with that gun.but I just bought some 34.7 grain NSA. Brother's in Air has a YouTube video of that particular slug in the FP wood.he had very good results with those slugs.

Aaron, 😊

it's good to be checking all those things that already have been mentioned.

Now, looking at the projectiles you're shooting — well, maybe the solution is rather simple....

🔶 As far as my reading of forum posts go....: There are few guns that shoot well with the Rabbit pellets (both lead and copper). Besides, the ballistic coefficient (BC) isn't stellar — a "real" modern day slug (NSA, H&N, Griffin, etc. will have a BC twice as good.

🔶Now the Piledriver was an awesome idea when Hugh Earl* first came out with the design. Slugs for small caliber airguns from industrial production lines were non-existent at the time.

It has an amazing BC, and the price (for being a slug) was unrivaled until last year when Nick of NSA cut the prices for his slugs in half (what a guy!).

Now, some people get good precision with the Piledriver, many do not get such good precion — they might not even hit the paper at 30 yards.... So, really, this is a slug not a pellet and — just like when shooting slugs — you have to find the right match of slug, barrel, and velocity.... A lot of trial and error. A lot of discards that simply don't have the precision you need.

🔶 All that to say, try some pellets that are liked by many guns.... At your power level I'd start with 18gr and up. Here are some pellets from quality brands, with good BC:

▪H&N Sniper Magnum (17.9gr)

▪JSB Heavvy (18.13gr)

▪H&N Baracuda (also in Match with 3 head sizes, and in copper ["Power"])(21.14gr)

▪JSB Monster Redesigned (25.39gr)

🔶 If you want hollow points — the jury is still out on if their hoped-for expansion upon impact will make up for their lower ballistic coefficient (i.e., more wind sensitive).

▪H&N Baracuda Hunter (18.21gr)

▪H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme (18.52gr)

▪JSB Ultrashock Heavy (25.39gr)

I'll attach a more comprehensive list of quality pellets and slugs below. With a chrony you could determine you muzzle velocity and see if you could use 16 grain pellets (there is a whole slew of them right around that weight).

Happy pellet testing! 😊

Oh WOW! that is all i can say to this post. Extremely great info. one small note, the Rabbit is made by H&N, not sure if that makes a difference. does 'Nick of NSA' have a website with his slugs?

😄 Sure, "Nick of NSA" does have a webpage...!

A year ago I wanted some clarity of what weights are available — and at what prices per shot! So I made a little list for myself.

But then over the past half year there has been a flurry of new slugs coming out. So now, this little list mushroomed into a full Slug Table, with:

Prices and direct links to sales page

Weights | Diameters available | Type of base and tip

Shipping | Discounts

Samplers

Besides the links in the table you'll find contact information for each manufacturer at the end of the table.

Happy slug shopping.

The HOLE.... just got a lot deeper.... 😜

On the subject of what ammo to use, it is very gun specific, even 2 of the same exact make and model can have widely different ammunition preferences. My .25 cal FlashPup Wood absolutely loves the Neilson 36 and 38 grain slugs, but with pellets it shoots so wild i have ruined more than one PVC made LDC due to clipping, so you have to see what your gun likes and when you find "the one" you will know it. I recommend the Neilson 36.5 grain hollow point slugs for the .25, might want to drop down a little lighter in .22 but what i noticed is that pellets are slightly under-bore, mine said 6.34mm as opposed to my slugs which are 6.35mm, and the pellets were barely engaging the rifling, but the slugs are well grooved from the rifling and hit great, thats been my experience.
