Next month my Lightning will hit a year in age. Since March of this year, I’ve been using it at 3X a month to top off my 88 cu foot tank with the recent aquirement of another 30 caliber in the Wildcat. These 30’s sure suck up the air, but no problem with this Lightning. The auto purge never stops amazing me, and never stops scaring the crap out of me when it blows, lol!

So far this has been an awesome tool!

Congratulations, Because of you I'm a happy Lightning owner too. 👍

I currently have 5 guys shooting off my compressor. They are extremely impressed too.

Two side notes though.

It took your photo for me to slap myself. Your tool cart set up and the rubber tool mat. Duh, I've got mine just sitting on top of the cart like yours, except mine is steel. Talk about the auto purge being loud!!!

Second, you wouldn't happen to have a photo of the fan mod. you did? You said something about increasing the gap some where. Was this on the shroud covering the fan or the distance between the actual radiator and the base it's attached too?

One more comment, Did you change the oil like your sticker implied??? 😃

Dave

BandG, it averages me 12-17 minutes for a top off from 3200-4500. From 3000 to 4500 about 20 minutes. I have the auto purge set to come on in 10 minute intervals, so for sure I get a moisture pop off in a top off.

SigP220 yes that cover plate you want to raise is on top of the cooling fan. It goes from bottom to top, starting from the bottom- cooling coil, cooling fan, protective plate. I believe the airflow works in that direction, also, so by raising that plate up as much as you can(I was only able to achieve around 3/4”) you’ll free up the air flow path, which will allow the fan to not fight against itself. Your temps will be happy, too.

My oil in the Lightning along with the coolant is still from the initial fill when I unboxed it last July. Oil is still clear looking, no burnt smells. I do plan on changing both oil and coolant next month, as instructed in the owners manual.

I have notes made by a label maker on all mechanical things that have controls, switches, timers, valves, and filters all over my place. I use these as reminders and also so I know my wife and son can “do eeett” should the need arise or if I’m not around. Big factor in these detailed notes is also memory loss with age. Who wants to keep looking for the owners manual to find out what type of oil is needed, lol.

SigP- on that rubber mat on top of my plastic 4 wheeled cart, I sourced that from Home Depot. It came exactly at 24” x 30”, the size of the cart on top. I lay that in there and it fit perfect. It is about 1/2” in thickness, maybe 3/4”. You’ll find it in the area where the flooring and carpet materials are at.

Before I put that mat down, my Airhog tank vibrated so bad from the compressor it wouldn’t stand still, and if my cart didn’t have a raised edge to contain that tank that tank would’ve vibrated off. That mat sure quieted things down, too. That moisture you see on top of the mat, in the top pick? That’s from the auto purge, and that moisture won’t soak into the mat. I have to wipe it off.

Congrats as well making it this long.. it sure has got bad press in the beginning..nice to see yours taking care of your needs.

optic planted started carrying them as well..

That is true. But I would suggest reading the thread from mtnghost about his issues with a Daystate conmpressor. Anything can have problems. And it seems the number of people who had problems with the Hatsan was relatively small but they were VERY vocal about it.

Luckily, my Yong Heng is still working fine at this moment but I really plan to get a better unit soon and it may be the Hatsan.

Don’t wait too long, BandG. I remember when this Lightning dropped as low as $950? At field supply. Now they’ve increased their “on sale price” now is at almost $1150 I believe.

I've noticed those fluctuations also. Probably should have gotten one from FS when they were under 1K a while back. Maybe the YH will last me until I catch one on sale for $500 (one can always hope😊). As noted above, Optics Planet has them at $1169 currently.

Optics Planet has frequent 10% off sales with free shipping if you spend over a certain amount. They also have excellent customer service. I am not certain if this compressor qualifies for that discount. I purchase most of my items from them to take advantage of their sales and great customer service. Just trying to help us airgun addicts to save a little dough.

Good to know. I've ordered a few things from Optics Planet over the years with good service but back in December I ordered a new type Crimson Trace red dot for a semi-auto pistol and it keeps being moved back on expected delivery date. Still not available. Probably a CT issue and not OP though.
