Hatsan Hatsan MOD 65 Gotta Go

OK, so I bought this gun a few weeks ago and I just can not get it to group. Sometimes 2 or 3 pellets will hit really close then the next several pellets are up to several inches off. I've tried holding it loose, tight, resting on my fore arm and nothing seems to help. I've tried the included scope, a Center Point and Hawke. I may take the scope off and try the iron sights and see how that does. I can't return so I'm stuck with it, plus it gets hard to cock after a while, I can shoot the HW50s and R0 for a hour and not get fatigued. May just take it to a pawn shop and see what they'll give me for it and order another R9 in .22. May give it to my son or nephew.
I took my .177 Beeman R9 out there and stacked a few pellets almost in the same hole.

A few things to check before you dump it. Is the barrel pivot properly tightened? Are the stock screws torqued down (very common issue affecting springer accuracy)? Have you given the gun 500-1000 shots to settle in?
I haven't checked the screws but I'll will. And no again, I haven't shot it that much, I'm guessing 200-300 shots so far. I did clean the barrel this afternoon, too. I use and airsoft unjamming rod and strips of a sham wow knock off and paper towel with WD40, It was dirty the first several times but I think it's clean enough now. I'm thinking it might be a little too powerful. After shooting it for a while, then cocking the R9 was like bending a plastic straw.

I would recommend grabbing yourself a PatchWorm kit to clean barrels. They're cheap and easy to use. But yeah, definitely check your stocks screws. Snug them to 20-25inlbs or so. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are but those are usually snug enough. Loose stock screws will wreak havoc on your accuracy

What pellet weights are you shooting? Have you tried a variety?

The barrel being cleaned initially is very important. My Hatsan came with all kinds of crud in the barrel. Like mentioned, a good pull through will really help. You can make one with fishing line and a lawnmower starter pull.

I was using boxed Crosman Premier 14.3g and RWS Super Domed. Both shoot totally different. The R9 will put several brand pellets close together.

Lol I purchased one of those earlier this year and I don’t know if I should put in the log splitter or throw it on the next brush pile I burn , needless to say I feel it’s a junker Good luck. Oh. I’m on my second one. the first one was worse than this one . And I tried to send this one back for a refund . I was told no refund but they would be happy to send me another one. I said no. I was afraid I would get the first one back 😬😬😬

Some of the videos I've watched where they get tight groups, hitting targets at 40 yards away is something I can't grasp. I just can't understand how they do it. Of course, they probably shoot a whole lot more than me.

I have many Hatsan’s. Older models when QC was a bit more managed. Hatsan has evidently given up on it. The 65 is a new model. It’s a model that has the pressed on polymer barrel shroud. Difficult to remove. No easy way to check the crown or re-crown if necessary. A problem notorious with Hatsan‘s. If you are getting several shots together in a string then the crown is probably not the issue anyway. The scope stop that is mounted on the receiver is problematic. I would remove it. Clean all the oil off both receiver and stop. Degrease the screws and holes. Blue Loctite the stop back down very tightly and keep rearward pressure on it while tightening. Leave it 24 hours. I have seen this stop move backwards and forwards. I would recommend stop comparing this to your R9. You are expecting to much from it when you do. This is a good learning project if you are up for it. It CAN be made to shoot very well. Plenty of help here if needed. If Weihrauch made this Walnut thumbhole stocked rifle with all the features this 65 has, it would cost $600+. It Is said over and over here. If someone doesn’t like working on an airgun, get a German or British made gun and send it immediately to a tuner. But a tuner would charge more than the 65 cost alone. All part of the bargain.
Very few springers can be taken out of the box, scope mounted, not cleaned, screws not checked, nothing else done and start shooting the same hole. Even the German and British ones.

Going all "QE" is my biggest turn off from hatsan . They need to give choice of a regular barrled or qe barrled.. I got a 95 qe and I think it was kinda chintzy .. had a weird "ping" when shot. Shot great before the ram just went flat overnight. Apparently there gas rams ain't too trust worthy , so go spring ... anyway I figured if it had a regular steel barrel and spring powered it be a nice little gun .. it was good while it lasted anyway grouping ..

Hello everyone, I will let all of you know what is done when a new gun arrives at my home. This is for all guns because I have had some high dollar guns fail my test and they are boxed up and sent back immediately. I do a quick visual analysis of the entire gun to see if I notice anything that's out of the ordinary. Next is the breech block area is Inspected, normally this is a quick check just because most guns are usually square and the machine work looks good. This is a critical test, called the pellet to bore test. This one usually sends them back ! If it's a break barrel then the test is done in seconds. If it's a PCP that requires the barrel to be removed from the action. To do this test you want to check your pellet size ,head and tail. I will do this test at least 3 times to make sure I didn't miss something? Now nothing is perfect but, I can say if the pellet to bore test is passed along with the other test I usually have an accurate airgun. There could be other variables but in general this is what I get. If you don't know what a pellet to bore test is go to YouTube, Mike Ellingsworth 's video on how it's done. As far as I know he's the only one I have ever seen do this and it's a very good test for me.
