Have you ever shot someone's target by mistake?

OMG I can't believe that I shot somebody's private target yesterday! I wasn't paying attention, it was toward the end of the day when the wind starts up and basically everyone was gone but the range master and maybe 2 other guys. I just finished shooting 400 plus yards but because of the winds, wanted to see how a quick swap (.25 in it currently) to a .22 barrel with the 40 grain Altaros would do at 200 yards. After turning down the speed it did very good and I was shooting these little bunny silhouettes, shot all of them and happened on a target still out on the lune and shot it a couple 5 times...

That was it and I started packing up. I wave hi to one of the guys as we we both were packing up did not speak to him, he waved back. He had this target in his hands and was so proud of it. I did not realize it was the same same target I shot at until this very morning when reviewing some of the footage. OMG!🥺

There was only the three of us shooting at that time and I go friggen shoot his target!

I am so sorry, I will have to see if I can find him next time I go out. I only see him maybe once every couple months out there.

Yep one time, well technically 3 times, was qualifying on the M16 in basic in the AF. I gave him 3 extra holes/points. I only got a 97, rats.

I have done this.

Shooting my first small bore silhouette at the Black Canyon range in Phynix. Driving down form Idaho I was worried that I might not hit the chickens, and I went over that first shot in my mind 100 times. On my first bank of chickens the cross hairs settled of the first bird and I shot it down. Victory!

A deep, dark baritone voice rumbled out, "Who's shootin' MY chickens".

I was guilty as charged.

I have some friends that shoot the long range black powder silhouette. Since you know how that particular range is layed out this'll be funny to you.

One of them, a goofy sort I might add, named Dick, was knocking down the other guys turkeys two banks left when he was supposed to be on the far right bank, LOL. So not even close and what 150 feet off or so?? The spotter is telling him he missed and Dick is saying he didn't then the guy who's turkeys got knocked over starts yelling out. It was quite comical to us who know Dick, LOL. It was especially funny to me because it took a few minutes for them all to sort out something was wrong instead of immediately. Good laughs on the way home.

Not that I've ever shot the wrong target, lol.

Yep....
Out Ca. Ground Squirrel hunting.....
About 250 yds out... My friend call out he see 2 squirrels hanging out on the burrow mound..
He calls for the back one... I take the one in front.
Well we do a countdown from 3, and we fire....
He missed to the left... My 22-250AI 52grn bthp took off the head of mine and splattered my friends squirrel...

Ohhhhh OVER KILL, LOVE IT

I've never done it by accident, but I have donated a few bullseye's to other shooters when they needed the encouragement.

Is that at Angeles Crest? Haven't been there in a very long time.

Cheers,

J~

I owe a great and lucrative career, to shooting the wrong target. I retired 2023 from the dental business. Allow me to relate one of my favorite stories. 1976 working a crap job with no health insurance and we had a condom failure about one year in to our marriage. I joined the USAF, Open general. Being 6'1" and in great shape that is almost a guarantee to getting the worst job in the Air Force, Security police.
We had one day training and qualification with the M16. The shooter to my right got a marksman's medal, while I failed to qualify. Yup got confused and shot my neighbors target way more than once! Tight and unnumbered shooting lanes and 100 yard targets. When I got my job assignment? A transfer to Sheppard AFB and dental assistant training. Guy can't shoot, stick him in the dental clinic. Failing to qualify with the M16 was one of the best things ever. I'm not wealthy, but dental was very good to me. I'm big in to powder burners too, walnut and steel no AR's in my world. I do regret selling my unfired Colt AR, just because I can't have one here now. Never shot the one I had for 5 years. Not a fan of MSR's.
