Hawke 10-50X60?

I have both and here are the differences to me: Sightron is clearer, but not by much over the ED which is clearer than all my other scopes. ED ranges slightly better than the SIII at 16X, SIII is lighter by about two ounces, ED reticle is thinner and sometimes hard to see in very dark lanes/targets, but the illumination solves that problem, therefore the SIII reticle is easier to see and its reticle illumination also works well for dark lanes. The ED scope is Mildots and my SIII is a MOA-H, which is MOA sub tensions. The -H stands for Hector and unlike the other SIII's, the entire reticle lights up not just the center dot.

The SIII doesn't come with a sun shade, $50 extra or make one from a cardboard tube, much lighter too. There is a website called www.DVOR.com which is a clearing house for Optics planet which has good deals on those scopes. I got a Hawke 10-50 ED scope there for $599, they aren't there all the time but do show up eventually, same with Sightron/March/Nightforce/Leopold scopes. Have seen the SIII's there for $1000, but some have minimum focus distances of 13 yards and some have 9-10 yards.

I have not looked thru the Hawke scope in question but I do have a Sightron 10-50x FT model and not too impressed. Its not a bad scope but quite frankly my Hawke 8-32x Sidewinder is as about as good. My Bushnell 8-32x 4200 is clearer than both but front focus. I would not buy the FT model Sightron again. I would consider a non-FT model 10-50 Sightron for less money. The wheel that comes with the Sightron is a 5" wheel. The gaps are so small it's near worthless so I had to buy a bigger one. Even with my 6" wheel the gaps at long ranges are super tight. It doesn't come with a sun shade so I had to buy that. It focuses to 8 yards but barely focuses to 55 yards (56 max). It is very temperature sensitive. If I had to do it over I would have bought a 35x or a 40x Leupold Competition scope for the same or a little less money. Had the Hawke 10-59 been available when I got the Sightron I would have most likely bought it. Good luck in your search.

When did you buy your sightron? The FT model I own was bought in late 2016/early 2017 and has non of the issues you point out. Sightron fixed the parallax issue and the FT models now range from 10yd-55. On my 6" wheel the gap from 50-55 is a bit over 1/4". You can get a nicer sunshade for the same price as factory from Rowan Engineering. The temperature shift on my scope occurs at the same point every time so is very manageable, That's not to say the Hawke isn't good either. I had the opportunity to look through one a couple years ago before they came out and I liked it. They hadn't been proven though when I bought my sightron.



Anyways good luck to the OP. I'm looking into the Aeon 10-50x60 offering for far less than any of the higher end scopes. I'll do a comparison with the sightron if I get the Aeon

John. I got the SIII about 6 weeks ago and it is the F/T model but not the Hector model. It will focus down to 8 yards and dose range find very well but I have only looked through the ED scope off the gun (@ a Airgun Show) and have not used it at a shoot. I shoot Hunter class @ 16 power and can honestly say it is only slightly better if any better at ranging than my Hawke Airmax was! I was told by a very reputable source that everyone is looking for the magical scope for 16 power use but that there really isn't one!! I paid up and bought the SIII but If I could do it over I would have probably gone a different route! Nothing wrong with it but the price is a bit much in my opinion. I do wish it had a fully lighted reticle instead of just the center dot. I also liked the reticle in the Air max better than any scope I have ever used. Hope you find YOUR magic scope!! I have given up for the moment!! Ha HA!! J.L.

I’m seriously considering one of Hawke ED’s just can’t make up my mind?, if I wait long enough (about 4 more days) my mind will be made up for me..., thought about a sidewinder 30 8-32x56, until I saw the ED!, I really like my 6-24x56 ffp! Cross hairs a little thick for me though? I had one of the first SIII’s years ago, tracked flawlessly! Very important to me! Glass a little cloudy @ 20x up 24x.

My experience with the Hawke ED has been great. I shoot Open PCP so click tracking and consistency is a must. I find the scope very reliable in ranging. I use the supplied 4” wheel. The only negative I see are that at 50 power, in the woods it’s hard to range. It’s really too dark, especially on darker targets. I had to dial back to 40-45ish (my first match in the dark woods was yesterday and first time I realized a slight fault)

I shot in the NorthEast Ohio Aigunners match yesterday. Headed to Crosman FT Championship this weekend

I have improved my match scores using this scope.
