When Hawke opened operations in the US 10+ years ago they had a Japanese made scope that they labeled "Frontier". Lenses were made in the same factory that makes lenses for Leupold, and the "Frontier" was absolutely top tier. So good, in fact, that I bought a half dozen of them and still use them on my long range prairie dog rigs.
They were so superior to the other Hawke products that they had to be dropped because the quality differences between them and the Chinese scopes that comprise the rest of the Hawke line were so obvious. Hawke designs its own scopes and reticles ( Nick Jenkison - three time WFT champion - is the reticle designer) but has them made to spec in China. They are good quality, at their price point, and well suited for Western tastes. They also have more dedicated airgun scopes that most others.
I have spoken to Hawkes head tech guy and he assures me that the new "Frontier" models are worthy of the name. Although I have no personal experience with the new version I believe that they are probably better than any other Chinese optic Hawke has ever offered.
