HW/Weihrauch Hawke scope and BKL mount issue

Howdy all

I’ve encountered an issue I wasn’t expecting trying to mount my Hawke scope to my HW97. The center of the scope where the turrets are hits the top of the mount - leaving a little space under the scope tube on both ends - in other words, I can rock it back and forth on the center. Which means if I tighten the scope rings, I’m guessing it will bend the scope tube.

Is there a way to shim the tubes safely? I was really wanting to use this mount and scope combo (I was also looking forward to getting sighted in this weekend)

You need to get a 2 piece mount….a 1 piece obviously won't work wilh your scope.
I had an Athlon that wouldn’t work with my 1 piece(don’t remember the brand).

Literally just took care of this exact issue on mine. I used a 120gr sanding disk on a Dremel and just polished the top of the mount and checked clearance as I went. It took all of 5 minutes to do. When you're done tape off the unpolished section and just hit the top with some flat black and call it a day

This was actually where my head went after I posted this. Only I may make quick work of it on my 2x72

I ran into the same issue using the same mount and a Hawke 2-7. I machined 1/16" of material off the center of the mount for clearance and touched up the spot with some black epoxy paint. Without a milling machine it can just as easily be done with a decent mill file. I ran into another problem though. Used the mount on my HW50S and no matter how much I tightened the BKL cross screws, the mount would creep backwards with every shot. Ended up using a Sportsmatch recoil stop block with a large size pin down in the rearmost stop hole on the top of the receiver. If the BKL creeps on an HW50S, I imagine it will on an HW97 as well.

I had this due to the little bong nipple

Lucky i had a slightly taller mount . That bong nipple was not part of the scopes measurements diagram..



Anyway you can check the scope mount) rings and the scope diagrams for fit measurements at there home site.

Pay attention to your torque sequence on 1 piece mounts. Two piece mounts work fine on an HW50 without a stop pin. And probably on a 97 as well. Never slipped on my R9 or HW95. I don't have a 97 but the added weight should make slippage less of an issue.
