I just sent one of my Hawke scopes back due to the tube getting messed up after installing the mounts using the Hawke recommended torque values. I'll see what they say next week when they receive the scope.
What rings did you use, one may have not been machined correctly?Could be Jay308, but both mounts were torqued using the same driver at the same value. Only one side of the tube was damaged.
Also possible Hawke had an oopsie on your particular scope. Maybe the scope tube was defective in some way.Could be Jay308, but both mounts were torqued using the same driver at the same value. Only one side of the tube was damaged.
Most inexpensive UTG mounts are very poorly made. Cap bores are often misaligned with the lower piece. Hence one damaged and one not. Also if you don't bring the caps down evenly in steps you can pinch the tube. They're was nothing wrong with the scope tube. I have at least 15 Hawke scopes and never damaged a tube. That's what I'm thinking. They were UTG mounts

Invest in Genuine Sportsmatch rings. They're made in the UK using high grade materials and hardware. AOA and PA carry them. 15 inlbs on their caps holds scopes fine on my springers upto 23fpe because theyre properly cnc machined.
you wont regret good mounts.. make sure you tighten crossbolt pattern and bring the gaps between top and bottom halfs together the same / evenly on both sides front and back.BTW
Ordered a set of Sportsmatch mounts.
