Head shot thread

Preparing for tomorrows hunt, getting the slug tune just perfect and getting the new liner seasoned well.

30gr zan HP. 878fps 34/35 yards (was at foot of my zero target) eating from a seed horde.

Took him by surprise if his expression doesn't betray that fact

Edit: I did the gruesome act of cutting and extracting.. the slug was in his right rear hind quarter. Just on the top of his.. hip?

Didn’t know this thread existed. Been squirrel hunting 3 times this year and limited out each trip. Starting off great this season. Hope everyone has success in the woods this year. I try to get nothing but headshots so this thread is perfect. Here’s a few pics of my contribution to the thread

Notos'd this chipper, who btw had a very close brush with death last night, sitting on a stump not too far from my 35y feeder. Last night forget had my safety on and squeezed, NOTHING. Then too hastily switched the safety off with my finger still on the trigger, Sploot! Premature triggulation... I thought it just zipped over his head. Apparently I pierced an ear. Tonight he wasn't so lucky and I remembered the safety.

Notos, 800~fps with .218 Griffin LDC HP slug. 37y

Mrs. and Mr.grey had a domestic spat over who got a hit of the Seed pipe first. Apparently Mrs. Grey was Jonesing pretty bad, she overpowered and won. Not for long... Griffin LDC 17GR from my Notos now spitting them at 841fps. This was at a decent 88y in the right eye hanging by a thread out of the neck behind her left ear.

Quartering toward my left. H&N 30gr .250 @899 fps 30yrds. HN slug did some serious damage. I always examine after, the entire (my left his right) left side of his head was soft. The skull was destroyed, fragments off it coming out of the exit wound and visible. Typical HP slugs expansion... Half mushroom half shape retained penetrates like a demon.

Update edit: dug the slug out of the loose packed rubber mulch pellet stop I have behind my feeder/ "table for one," station.. camera died when I took the squirrels pic. Just got around to updating.

When did you get the zelos? Does it live up to the what the YouTube reviewers show?
Buddy of mine got it as a gift, I typically tune his guns and we share our lot of guns lol. It shoots well, it definitely needs baffles in the shroud. @Firewalker is currently experimenting and sending me one to try out. This one in particular right out of the box shoot 25.39gr FX at 856fps. Prefers the 18gr Fx and 15.89gr AEA, shoots the Javelins 21gr .217 ok, the Apolo 25gr okayish, and the 28gr Apolo phenominaly. I've yet to try the 28.5gr Varmnint Knockers in .217. I did try other slugs but the moderators I had on hand were clipping for some reason so it currently wears a tanto .25 mod instead of the .22. It gets almost 2 mags per fill though.

That's exciting to hear. Something so affordable (relative to PCPs) performing with such nuts. That's some 44fpe I think w 25.39s.. for a stock tune 'budget' .22. Nice. And slugs that well. Very exciting. Would you spend your own money on one?

It is definitely a nice platform to get into PCP's. It I was someone who didn't need a lot of shots, wanted something with enough umph to take down game for good price. Yes, I would buy it.

I will say that even though it's a tube version, and it has a vortex tactical diamondback 4-16x44 it feels a bit heavy. Heavier than my Huben k1 .22 with a 4-16x50 Arken sh4 which weighs 37oz with the rings compared to the 26oz the vortex weighs and they're supposed to be about the same weight.

If it came with a bottle like the m60b I would be all over it for the price.

Was re-tuning my .25 M4 earlier today (put a 1:16 slug liner in and upped power for heavier slugs) and playing around with pellets to see how the liner does with them. Was shooting at my 50 yard target box (full of rubber mulch - I like my neighbors…), which is a 42 yard out of my basement window if I rotate it around 45 degrees. Oh boy… the liner, or at least the one I got, stacks 34gr pellets at 910fps. Literally anny I tried, JSB heavies, MK II, JTS annd AEA (AEA being the best - multiple one hole groups, can’t wait to try further out…). That’s around 62 ftlbs. But I’m getting sidetracked… So here I am, stacking 33.9 AEAs on the target box and this guy literally jumps on top of the box and eats a walnut!! Normally I don’t use a .25 for squirrel (but maybe I will going forward)… A heavy “plock”, dropped on the spot, and I saw the pellet smack into a tree 20ish feet behind the box. Went clean through and pushed the brains out the entry hole…
