Hello old friend, I just got another FX Royale 500. Woot!

My very first PCP was an FX Royale 500. Some of you might have read my posts gushing about it for a couple of years lol It was lights out accurate and after enjoying it for some time I decided I wanted to try other guns but couldn't justify spending the money so I sold the Royale. While I discovered some pretty awesome guns with some great features I always seemed just a little bit disappointed and always missed the Royale. I always missed the butter smooth side lever. Everything about the gun just felt right to me. I suppose we all have those guns and that's likely what causes so many flame wars about the "best guns" lol. For me, the Royale was the most accurate out of the box gun I had owned. So I finally broke down and last week I bought another one and just received it the other day. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't be as accurate as the last one. I was even more nervous when I took it out yesterday morning in slightly breezy conditions and while I believed I was shooting "between the gusts" I was getting very disappointing results.

Fortunately the wind died down just before dusk this evening I got to sling some lead in near perfect conditions. The groups in the picture were shot at 53 yards lasered, from a bench, off sandbags. Please forgive the less than professional target haha. All five groups are five shots and all can be covered with a dime. The loose shot at the top in the middle was the only flier I had while shooting the last group in the top left. 

Needless to say, I'm completely enamored with the results and couldn't be happier. Having another Royale again feels a bit like coming home to an old friend lol.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else about "the one you never should have sold" or if you did, did you ever get another one?

Fast Eddie,
The Bobcat mags will work in the 500 as it has the same action. If you have any extras, you might wan too hold on to them. That is, as long as you get the same caliber, of course. ;) 

Cliff, I miss my 500 so much! I only had it for a few weeks and really got to liking it in that small amount of time. Congrats and enjoy! I have one on my radar for the future (maybe before EBR if things go well!). I'm a sucker for the wood stock and am going to spring for the upgraded wood stock as well.

Congrats on the new gun Cliff. I bought a used but like new 500 about 3 months ago and didn't know what to expect. The first day I got it I fired my first pellet and the gun was so quite that I really thought something was wrong with the power output. 1/2" groups at 60yds is pretty easy without the wind. I'm filling mine to 200bar and shooting it down to 160 for a nice string of 40 shots at less than 2%ES. I would like to get it regulated before to long though.

Sounds familiar, I had the same with the Boss. Sold it because it was boringly accurate, but it always kept itching after I sold it. (Swapped the barrel on that one for a .25cal BSA hammer forged barrel, I'm a 25cal fan:))
I like FX airguns, as they are reasonably priced here in EU, and I like their innovative way of designing airguns.
When I went to Sweden on holidays, I brought a .25 bobcat MK2 and a R500 black pepper. As I couldn't choose which one to keep, I flipped a coin and sold the R500.
Big mistake, because bullpups are not my cup of tea I found out. But the R500 was gone already....... Bummer. Sold the Bobcat MK2 and bought a RAW HM1000x .30cal
Very nice rifle, and also swapped the barrel for a .25 cal.
Eventually, I sold it to a club member, because RAW's are really expensive over here (+2600$), I couldn't justify to have that amount of money sitting in a single airgun. Keep in mind, the RAW is about 1000$ more expensive than the FX Boss. 

Recently, I bought a walnut stocked FX Boss again, and couldn't be happier. Of course, I swapped barrels again, and customized a .25 LW barrel blank with carbon sleeve and shroud, just like I did with the RAW.
Why choose a Boss over a R500 while I actually wanted a .25 cal? Well, I'll tell you. I wanted to shoot the king heavies at significant speed (900+ fps) and the Boss has got the power to do so. Besides that, it comes with the match trigger and a regulator standard. Only thing I don't like with all FX-es are their skinny 14mm barrels. That's also the reason that I started putting carbon sleeves around about every barrel I come across. It really improves stiffness a lot, and to me, it also looks better too. (You won't see me wrapping a gun in carbon look, it's got to be functional as well. Form follows function:))

Awesome, I think that is a really low ES, for a gun that is not regulated. It's good to hear you are enjoying it, they are a heck of an accurate gun. The one I originally had I sold to Pedro in Puerto Rico and he's been using it to slay the very out of hand iguana population with great success from he's told me. I'm not much of a hunter myself and just enjoy shooting for accuracy so I prefer the traditional rifle style to the bull pup. I would be interested to see the difference in the shot string from one like yours that isn't regulated to a regulated one.

Glad you got your rig back. 
I would say the one I sold that I should have kept ( you know after weeding through which of the dozen or so keeps that have been sold over the years) would have been the Titan/Beeman MPT .22 . Yup that was one heck of a fine utility and not a thing on the market even comes close these days.


So, what's you next rifle? KIDING.

Thats a heck of an idea, fitting a .25 barrel to a .30 action. I'm curious why LW over the smooth twist? I would go LW if I thought it would get me better results than I am getting, but I prefer the smooth twist if for nothing else I hardly ever have to clean it. How does your rig sling those heavies? That must be putting out quite a bit of power for a .25

Haha, I don't think I'll be getting another rifle for a while. I've been going through them fairly quickly lately. I have four currently. A cricket .22 rifle, a BSA R-10 MK2, this Royale and a Bobcat MK2. I have a Weihrauch HW97kt also that just sits in the closet collecting dust. I really should sell it. The Bobcat will be going shortly also and that will leave me with just the 3. I'm on the fence about whether or not to get rid of the cricket, but there is just something about it's styling that makes me enjoy shooting it. Anyway, I'm rambling haha.

Thank you Tom. I'm curious, what made you get rid of the 500 so quickly if you liked it so much? Also, did you mean you were going to get your next 500 with a wood stock or were you saying there is an "upgraded" version of the current wood stock? Thanks again!

Availability of LW blanks is very good where I live, and they are affordable. ST, well you have to have a bit of luck to get a shooter IMO. The Bobcat MK2 I had was not as it should out of the box.
It was suffering from very strange flyers, and I was not happy with the result.
Disassembled the complete gun and I set the regulator pressure at 150bar & adjusted the HST until it shot the kings at 880fps. Still not ok. After polishing the barrel it started shooting clusters, and it got better and better. Sold it to a club member and it still shoots fingernail sized groups at 50meters any day.
Another reason to choose LW is the diameter, they are 16mm compared to 14mm for ST barrels.
Long story short, it shoots like a dream, and is putting out 62fpe with king heavies in standard .30 setting.
Enjoy your new R500, they are fine rifles :) Smooth and light, and a very high shotcount.

Cliff - I think I traded my Bobcat for the 500 and then, before I knew it, the Wildcat was coming out. So, I sold the 500 right back to the guy that traded it to me. LOL! While I do miss it, I would have eventually gotten rid of that particular one anyway as it did not have the power adjustment wheel. Also, it "seemed" like it was a very long rifle to me. It's actually similar in length to the AA S-510, but it just seems long. I think that is due to the shape of the LDC. If it was a full length shroud, I don't think it would "look" so long. But, that's impossible due to the bottle being in the way. 

Fasteddie & Cliff - There is an upgraded stock available. It is a higher grade of wood and is another $200 on top of the price. I believe it is only available by special request and have no idea if it would add a wait time to a new order. Also, I haven't got a clue if it's available as just a stock alone.
