FWB Help me decide - FWB 300 or 300s Junior

Hi all,

Long story short, I have the opportunity to buy a 300 and/or a 300s Jr. Both rifles are in very good condition and I believe that both have "low miles" on professional rebuilds.

I am unfamiliar with them beyond a few goofin' around shots with a friend's lefty version (I'm a righty) and of course, what I read.
I'm primarily a bench shooter, and that's what these would be used for, unless I get the urge to do a lot of freehand shooting again.
I'm interested in both, thinking that the heavier 300 would be better from the bench, and that the Junior would just be a treat to use in general. But those are just guesses.

If anyone could give me some insight into them, as well as their general values, I would really appreciate it. My funds are limited and I really need to sort out how best to use them.

I have owned several of both and prefer the Junior. Same accuracy in a lighter package. Depending on your reach you will more than likely need to add a spacer to the Junior’s butt stock to increase length of pull. Simple to make a spacer. If your going to do the majority of your shooting from the bench the 300s is fine . Both are easy to rebuild using the same parts. Same cocking effort.

Love the weight of the mini. Had both. No noticeable difference in accuracy.

In theory, the longer barrel and extra weight (I assume it has a barrel sleeve?) of the 300 would be an advantage from the bench. But the the 300S Junior is a much funner gun to plink with - while the sleeve doesn't weigh THAT much, having It out so far in front of your hands is hugely noticeable.

But really both would be awesome for either purpose. One of the bigger changes to the "S" was the positionable trigger blade. And the Junior does have a shorter stock, but buttplate spacers will bump it out to "normal" length.

The 300 is older of course, and some parts would be quite difficult to source, like the sidelever latch bits and trigger stuff.

I keep my Junior action in a full-size stock, the looks and handling are both to my liking. Top to bottom in the pic are a 300, early 300S Match, slightly later 300S Universal, and the Junior In a 300SL stock (the pic distorts perspective; the barrels, measured from the front of the breech block, are 445mm on the 300, 395mm on the 300S, and 320mm on the Junior).

I would give serious thought to buy both . i have a 300s lefty and it has to be my favorite of all the guns i own . hope to find a 300 lefty at the shows next year .

Well, I bought both so I'll be able to try them both and find out for myself.
I will say that I had assumed that the trigger on the earlier 300 would not be the equal of the Jr, but I was wrong. It is ounces light, clean and crisp. Very impressive.
Though, Randy Bimrose went through this rifle in 2011. Trigger work isn't listed on the invoice, but who knows?

The next question is... can I keep them both?

The good news is that I'll be able to try them over time, to see if I have any preference, etc.
The 300 sure looks like it will ride a bag rest securely! and that's mostly what I do.

Trying to find a nice lightweight 12x now, for the rifles to share. Possibly shoot them outdoors this weekend.

Check out the SWFA SS 12x, it’s a solid scope.

So far I like my Optisan CP. Nice size for the FWB 300, giving easy access to the loading port. I have it installed on my Diana 75 right now.
