Help me find a different BiPod ((updated to show my partial attempt))

My search for stuff doesn't usually match the average 'wants' so I'm hoping there might be a few folks out that have come across something I just can't seem to find.

I'm looking for a quality bipod, (pic rail mount!).... that is 1.5 - 2.0 inches SHORTER than the normal Atlas. Most of the atlas bipods are listed at 4.75" - 9"+ adjustable height.

I'd like to something that is 3-5 inch adjustable, or simply 3-3.5 inch fixed. The min height is really the only thing that matters to me.

stud mount bipods are not any option anymore.

Many folks might think WHY as a first response. It really comes down to where I've chosen to shoot most of the time and what I've chosen to shoot. The atlases still work for me most of the time, just not for a couple of my rifles (even tilted - but for a different reason).

+1 for the UTG heavy recon. You can put one leg forward and one back and rotate 45 degrees to have it very low and very wide.

Standard position

Feet forward 3.75" to pic rail 5 " wide

One forward and one back

4.5" to pic rail but now 9" wide! Very stable

As a bonus it is guilt free since it is not a knock off of someone else's design.

They are fairly cheap too, usually around 50.00.

Decided to finish my attempt at my mod with hand tools on my atlas knockoff... Finished one leg.

I can still adjust 2 notches longer, but I didn't drill and slot for the stop spring so it will pull off if I go past 2 slots and I didn't drill for the foots stop detent. It's simply held in with some silicone sealant right now. Now the question is, can I duplicate that on the other leg??😂

Lewis, watch the Recon closely. Keep an eye on the locking tabs. They are soft and wear quickly. Mine dumped a very expensive AG on the ground off the bench. Further inspection show's that the locking tabs wore to rounded nubs.

I milled thru them, and put in steel pins in their place. Locks fine now. But I don't trust it.

Good to know. I have a couple of them, I'll keep an eye on them for sure.

They are among the sturdiest, including adjustments) available. Most of the sales are/were to law enforcement or military (at least that's the impression I got from the website) so they were able to set a price. Then we were turned on to them and paid their price, so ….. Are they REALLY worth the difference or not? That's up to the shooter. My post was really about finding something of the same quality at half the height/leg length. Really for one particular gun. I haven't done the rest of my modification on my knockoff but I'm confident that effort will fit my need for that gun.

I'll post my end result here but this post old enough that I doubt anyone will see it.
