The .72 Zeus isn't very flat shooting. The Zeus did have some problems. Chicken thief received a Zeus with a horrible lead in the barrel. AEA did not fix the problem.... The .510 Texan at least parts are available. Seems like the Texan barrels are rough and would expect to air fire lap it or hand lap the barrel... Also with the recoil you really do need a stock.on a Texan. Lots of.molds available for .510.... I wouldn't be scared of a .510 piledriver...either

why the jump? in .50 there are plenty of options and since you were already looking at AEA why not look at the 50 challenger? also supposedly 700 fpe.
the Zeus is interesting but you're stuck either casting your own or spending a lot on ammo, for me if I'm going to spend PB money on ammo then I can just buy a PB for less money.
if you already looked and are set on those 2, probably the Texan would be a safer choice in the long run.

I'm new to the big bore game and I'm looking at 2 riffles but not sure which one I should get hope yall may have some suggestions. I'm looking at the texan lss.510 or the zues.72 don't know which to go with
@keithn777 What is your intended purpose for either of these big bores? Will you be hunting? If so, which animals and at which distances will you be shooting? Do you plan to cast your own ammo? What sort of air source do you have?

If you had the Zeus, you'd always wonder how good the Texan is. If you had the Texan, you'll pine for the larger .72. May as well get them both and be done with it. As for me, If I cant kill it with the Texan, I likely wont be able to kill it with the Zeus... and I'd rather have the cheaper ammo and the factory and community support that the AF platform offers.

I'm gonna be hunting deer not sure of distance and gonna buy a compresser for the air rifle gonna also just buy ammo for now

Why not Zeus .58 ? Still single shot though.

There is also the Challenger Pro "Elite" that Fox Air Power sells... has a few upgrades and nicer stock than the regular Challenger Big Bores. You can get that in 50 caliber and it's magazine fed.

The Texan is probably better in some ways, but lack of quick follow up shot doesn't appeal to me.

The new/upgraded Bulldogs aren't a bad idea either.

Texan .457 CF TX2. Best documented ballistics on the market and ammo selection is plentiful! These rifles are designed for hunting and thus concentrated on power and major air use to deliver performance. If you want shot count and lower power this isn’t the rifle for you. This is a designed killing machine!

I have a list of reasons to choose a Texan over others! It’s fact and experience based narrative and not opinion based!

1. Lifetime warranty

2. Made in the USA

3. My long 34 inch barreled rifle as shown with the scope and bipod, fully accessorized (for me) is only 9.2 pounds. Easy to carry. My carbine fully decked out only weighs in at 7.95 pounds.

4. No magazines that can break. You can use any size and weight of bullet in the Texan, no limitations because of single loading. Other brands severely limit you on bullet size based on using the mag but you can still single load most other brands. Reloading the Texan only takes 5 to 6 seconds, “IF” a second shot is needed.

5. Fewest O rings on the market and each is easy to change quickly.

6. Fewest moving functional parts. Simple and easy design.

7. Only a max fill of 3600 psi with the carbon fiber bottle and TX2 valve to deliver these accurate power numbers. No 4500 psi fills needed to make power.

8. Filling to only 3,000 or 3600 depending on the model, you get multiple refills from breathing tanks. Makes shooting more enjoyable and more “mileage” from your fill tanks in the field or range.

9. Easy to field strip for maintenance

10. Trigger is smoother on the Texan and mine breaks at 2.2 pounds.

11. Foster fill nipple versus a probe that others use that can get lost or not fit.

12. The most efficient and powerful factory stock valve system on the market. Straight line from the bottle to the muzzle.

13. Quality and consistent Lothar Walther barrels.

14. Infinite tuning capabilities. Tuning on the fly in only seconds

15. Customer service is top notch and available here in the USA. Factory parts are readily available and along with a lifetime warranty, they’re shipped fast and free.

16. Easy to accessorize without adding a lot of weight.

17. The .457 caliber has the best documented ballistics on the market. Most available commercial ammo. If you cast like I and a lot of others do, a limitless supply!

18. I have over 17,800 shots on my 34 inch barrel Texan and only routine cleaning and maintenance has been performed. No breakdowns or interruptions of use.

19. My longest kill shot is 119 yards complete pass through 2 holes. Others routinely kill out to 160 yards plus with a complete pass through, 2 holes. I haven’t lost any game this rifle has been used on, 100% recovery rate.

I'm with you with the Texan! I started out with a 25 cal Avenger, modified it to 75 fpe It was a fun gun to shoot, then i bought AEA big bore 357 standard, another fun gun but very heavy, I recently bought a 257 Texan,,My new love!!! Texans are like no other hunting gun. I hear some say they want a gun with a magazine. I don't miss it all. you watch most reviews with airguns when going for accuracy,, they hand load! Texan makes one of the very best guns all the way around, built, long range, power and very accurate oh and the best warranty ect.

I have owned two AEA rifles and sold each of them in less than 10 shots each. I gave that company a try, but those rifles are just not for me for many reasons. I won’t ever purchased another of their rifles.

But the Texans are my go to, and I have more Texan’s in my collection than any other rifle. I do have a Gauntlet 30 Cal that is very impressive and a lot of fun to shoot.

I cast all of my own ammo, and since the Texans are all big bore calibers, that makes it very economical to shoot, and I love shooting every single one of them.
