HELPFUL HINT for those whose gunstocks have high gloss finish!

I was looking at my FX Boss' pepper laminate stock in the sun today & noticed a couple "cloudy" areas. Mostly on the cheek rest & butt. Microfine scratches, but enough of them to cause dullness. I used some Meguiar's PlastX & it removed the cloudiness & brought incredible shine & luster back to the stock. Looks brand spanking new! I've used it for years on my drums that had high gloss finishes too & it's never failed to make things look beautiful.

P.S. Works wonders on guitar finishes too!

id say depending on surface, most automotive paint and clearcoat polish will work and the finish can be worked the same as any other paint .. never tried plastx on paint, it works good on plastic lol .. its probably just a really fine cut though ie, more work than an actual compound ir scratch remover/ clearcoat polish ... no idea how any of this would react to a 'truoil' etc finish, but high gloss clear laquer or urethane, yeah ...

Thanks for the tip other day noticed some fine scratches on the butt of my powder burner will give it a try.

I have a bottle of that in my care kit. Good stuff on poly surfaces. Works well on motorcycle windscreens, too. Old school nitrocellulose lacquer (old gun stocks/guitars): probably better options.

Yeah, high gloss, HARD lacquer finish! Tru-oil is probably too "sticky".

Nothing is new under the sun when it comes to wood finishes. Without going into detail and assuming you are starting with a finished wood stock the polishing product to use is called ‘rottenstone’. This is for final polishing when there are no nasty flaws remaining. It is a powdered wood product that you mix with oil to make a paste and rub out imperfections with. Depending on the weight of oil you use you can get finer and finer polishes by hand rubbing, and depending on the finish you are working with can achieve a satin to piano final finish. Buy at any paint store.
