HW/Weihrauch Here it is. My last airgun came today.

My new to me R8 came in today. The gun is gorgeous. I've seen new guns come out of the box not this nice. Butt pad doesn't look like it's ever seen a shoulder.

Like many old Weihrauchs gun has slight barrel droop and drift. Starboard in this case. Both are unfortunate but fixable. Nothings ever perfect.

I bought this rifle thinking it'd be a perfect blend of my sweetheart Hw30 plinkers and Hw50 size. Picking up the rifle, its more like an under powered Hw50 that feels like an Hw95. Without a scope the R8 weighs the same as my scoped modern Hw50. That's 7.2 lbs on a scale. That's only about 5 ozs lighter than the advertised weight of an unscoped Hw95. If my R8 had rear sight the difference would be even less. The R8 looks about a couple inches longer than my 50.

I'm not a fan of heavier rifles so I'll have to see if this becomes a favorite or a flip. Here's pictures of it naked next to my modern 50 with scope. The rifle is gorgeous so I'm not gonna get hurt if I don't like it. I still haven't shot it yet. I'll have to shoot it a few times to see if I want to invest more money and time into this rifle.

That's it for now.
Be well
Ron.

Wow, wish I could find one that nice. Almost did a couple of times but asking prices plus high shipping costs were deal killers. I looked at new R8's at Beeman's in Santa Rosa but to my young eyes the R8 was half the gun the R1 was for 3/4 the price and that just didn't make sense. With maturity comes wisdom, lol.

Beautiful R8.. congrats on purchase. Dont see the rear sight ??? Need to get one

I like the R8
Better than a rear sight it has a Beeman blanking plate. I have the correct rear sight for it if I wanted it on there. If I keep it I'll either put an aperture sight on there or a scope with an original Beeman honey dipper muzzle end on it.

Go with the Beeman/Williams peep. Looks great and works great.

Build Quality, build quality …… build quality over the HW 30 or HW50.
Again, much like the HW 35 …. somewhat obsolete, but a beautiful machine.
The HW55 has the same problem ….. quality is King 🎯🚀💥.

If you want to flip it, I would like to be the first …… to be able to but it 🌈.

Like the 35, I heard so many people fawn over their HW50/55s that are the basis of the R8, I thought the more modern R8 would be great fit for me. Build quality equals weight, I guess. I knew the threaded receiver would add weight. I didn't realize how much. I'm more of a pragmatist so I'm more concerned with function and comfort over form. Thus accuracy and weight are my two biggest concerns. The heavier the rifle the less I use it. There's nothing mechanically wrong with with the cast trigger housings in the later and lighter Weihrauch rifles. For what I was looking for out of this rifle I might have been better off soft tuning a modern 50. I'll have to shoot it a bit before I make any decisions about it.
