RAW Rapid HM1000X tuning and fun

Thanks for all the info Ranchibi. Would you say it shoots the 18.1 the way you have it tuned as good as it would shoot the mrd from the factory? I'm looking for a tune that under good conditions can shoot a pellet or slug(groups of 5 shots) moa pretty consistently at 50 yards. My Brocock shiper will with both 18.1 as well as the mrds, but it has the advantge of a power selector.

I'd consider retuning it for 18.1, but I really wanted a 100 yard gun. Do you know about where your reg is set? I believe they come around 145 from the factory, but I can't confirm that.

Your welcome dreamweaver, sorry for the late reply, missed it somehow, age related.... My barrel is not picky and it shoots the MRD's very accurately @ 870fps. I believe you are correct in that the .22 regs are 140-145 bar set from the factory. I shoot lighter slugs and 18gr pellets because they are cheaper to shoot than the 25gr MRD's, plus the light slugs BC is as good or better than the MRD's and are more accurate in wind. I am looking forward to MSB releasing the new Monster Light 20.7gr..although they be more expensive than NSA .22 lighter slugs..... I have taken ground squirrels out to a little over 100yds with 18gr JSB in very mild conditions.

Indeed the RAW X guns will struggle to shoot the heavier weights and higher velocities .... The "Designed" comment is about right as they honestly lack sufficient plenum volume to maintain pressure with being asked to deliver higher power

With your mods Motorhead, they become more efficient (and more quiet)! With a larger drop down or inline plenum and your mods....RAW NIRVANA!

Is that with Martin's original tune or did you adjust the regulator and hammer spring ?

emack, that is with Martin's tune that I asked for when sent in for a service. I did adjust my tune when I first purchased mine by adjusting the HS just a little, didn't take much to get what I wanted.

Efficient yes, able to extract more power if leaned on ... nope

The one thing I have found is that the NSA slugs are much harder than the pure lead Corbin slugs. I have plenty of 217, 2175, and 218 of the NSA.... and I was having issues with some of the 217 and 2175 slugs. The 218 slugs there was no way they were going into the barrel.

So for my rifle atleast it seems the softer lead is easier on the system. Though also want to try more of the NSA slugs, due to having a ton of them on hand.

This is causing some weird findings honestly. It has be wondering if the type of lead will also affect the ammo we use. Harder lead means a smaller slug is needed, but that may not be the best slug for your barrel. Pure lead makes it easier for the slug to fit to the barrel

I also have the .22 raw and the NSA .218 will not fit in the barrel, but the .218 JSB K.O. slides in just fine. Is that because the NSA lead is to hard? I measured them with a micrometer and there the same exact diameter. Slugs are not working at all in my .22 raw, even at 25 yards there all over the place. I think I'm just gonna stick with pellets being they are super accurate.

You are using a diameter that is too big if youare having to work it in
With pellets, a tight fit is fine,
but with the slugs, too much/too little will affect the accuracy

take that slug and push it through the barrel...use a wood dowel or bore rod
then take your micrometer and measure the grooves on the slug to get the bore diameter and the correct size for your slugs
makes a lot of difference

I spoke to Nick at NSA about this. I was getting higher velocity from 26 gr Zan slugs than 24.8 gr KOs. He informed me that the alloy he uses is a tad harder than other manufacturers. So, you will have to adjust the diameter of your slugs and go down maybe 0.0005.

I have found that NSA are indeed harder. The lead I am using for my slugs is pure lead from Corbin.

I am going to do some more testing with different ranges and will see what happens. Though I did have no issues hitting targets yesterday out to 160 yards.
